Steam Link

Steam Link (Hardware) will it ever support higher resolution?
I own the very first iteration of the Stema Link Hardware, and honestly... it does a better job than any other software version on 1080p.

Will it ever suport higher resolutions tho? Or it will be forever locket at 1080p? Is it a hardware limitation?

nope
the hardware is limited to 1080p (1920x1080)

hopefully they make a 2nd gen link that can support 4k

I tried everything out there, nothing beats the smoothness of the actual steam link hardware for me =(

You tried Moonlight already? Because you can install it directly on the Steam Link device. Which is why I suggested it.

moonlight will not make the link output higher than 1080p

you can use another pc (htpc/laptop/desktop) to stream higher than 1080p

I truly hope Valve release a new version of the Steam Link hw. I have a Sony Bravia with Android TV, and like the OP says, none of the apps (Steam Link App, Moonlight, etc.) works anywhere near as stable as the Steam Link hw...despite them all offering a higher resolution.

no real point in different hardware
too many good alts
you can use a pi, htpc/laptop, android box, nvidia shield, tv app

device apps and android do have some issues with slower hardware not designed to do higher res streaming

Id say there´s a point if there´s demand. And a Steam Link hardware even rated for 4k streaming would be significantly cheaper than any of the options listed by you. I will not even enter on the user friendly territory, which is a pretty obvious quality of the hardware.

use a htpc, pi4 or nvidia shield for 4k
but 4k also requires a very good host to be able to play and stream at 4k
