Steam Link

Steam Link

TCL Android TV
i don't know what the problem is, but this app seems to not work very well. I'm assuming I did everything right, and setup the computer to play remotely on my tv. I'm using a TCL 55" 4K UHD Android TV and when I launch the app it barely gets through connecting to my pc.

I've searched online and found some settings that may affect the performance of my pc to stream but it seems that it's not helping. The app either fails to load or loads fine, but remote play just lags and stutters and displaying the red antenna signal icon all the time and then closes the app.

connected over 5g wifi and network cable to my isp router, but nothing changed seemed to change the bad network lag. that what I think it is. Or could it be the app on my tv, or steam client on my pc?

I asked my ISP about this, and they don't provide support for my connected home, so they can't help, but I pleaded with them that it's due to a router streaming issue, but they insisted nothing was wrong with the network.

My first thought was I have a firewall issue and need to open a port because of the way it's connecting to my tv and steam link app through the router, but I can't find anything in regards to any port that are required for streaming to the app. Then I thought that since the steam link is also a device, I thought that it would be beneficial to use a network switch to just completely bypass the router while streaming to my tv. I also think it has to do with my gpu, but i am not totally that sure what the issues may be.

Is it just that this app hasn't been used or tested on my TV and PC hardware enough to understand what is happening here.

I need some help as I just wanted to see if I could play my games on my new TV, but it's looking like I need the device which is all out of stock at the moment, so this is the only option for me at the moment.

Hi, I've actually found a solution to *our* problem. In Steam Link app go to settings (the gear icon), streaming, more and more until you're on the page 3/3 and enable HEVC video. It fixed the problem for me. And I've spent a lot of time on it too... Take care!

yeah and I also fixed it, but i turned off hardware decoding. either one fix will work i guess. probably depends on the computer.

I've narrowed it down to an older model of android. It seems to be the issue that most games have issues on the Smart TV games store, and steam's remote play as well.
