Steam Link on Mobile Network Possible?

Steam Link works awesome on my home network but will it work away? I get an infinite connection test when I turn the wi-fi off on my android and use the 5G mobile network instead. Is it just not possible to use on a 5G network away from home? My xboxs stream awesome over 5G.

With Steam Link (or Steam Remote Play), you can stream games from your computer on one network to a different network else where such as your phone's mobile data connection. For example, you can stream from your computer at home to your phone at school/work.

You should be able to try it out by running Steam on your computer, having the computer connected to your home network, disabling WiFi on your phone so that your phone uses your mobile data connection, and then launching Steam Link on your phone.

thank you very very much. i am doing all that but no luck so far. i disabled my firewall while testing without any improvement either. I wonder if my carrier T-Mobile has blocked streaming for the app. I am using steam link, isi steam remote play a different app? steam link works great on my home wi-fi network but I am hoping to get it to work when I am travelling. I am holding up some purchases in the steam store until I can be sure I can play the games while I am gone.

Steam Remote Play refers to the the Steam feature that allows Steam users to stream games from their computer to other devices, such as mobile phones and computers. Steam Link is an app that uses the feature. As for whether a phone carrier can interfere with the streaming, I remember experiencing issues with T-Mobile in one location, where the stream for Steam Link wouldn't start, and it working fine in another location, but that was almost two years ago.

thank you for replying! I switched off wi-fi BEFORE starting steam link and it is working! Must be the app has trouble switching networks while launched. Works OK today at least!

if using wifi, it will connect directly to the link
using wan forces the stream to use internet relays

Yeah, I've experienced that issue before; I probably should've emphasized that step more. Glad that it got sorted out!

Man people keep pushing this, but I am happy with remote play. It's a lot simpler to setup and use, with the only real issue being that, when I'm outside of my own network (IE: public wifi or cellular hotspot) it's unusable, and frankly I don't think the service you use will change that

There is definitely a way to do this, I have done it before. When steam link was first available I had a phone set up to do this. They had a tutorial at the time I followed. I can not remember and am looking right now.

I'm not sure exactly what made it work but I enabled remote desktop in win 11 settings, and what I think did the trick was I selected phone link from win 11 settings and set up while on Mobile data. After that I tried steam link and it's working now while phone is on Mobile data and desktop connected to home wifi network. I hope this could help someone.
