Does Freesync on Samsung TVs work with Steam Link?
Hey all!

I have a Samsung TV and sometimes I play my Steam games on it via the Steam Link App. It works rather well in most cases, but the big problem for me is the lack of the ability to turn on Freesync, so every minor framerate fluctuation is extremely noticeable.

Theoretically you can turn gaming mode on (and Freesync) for any device that is connected via the HDMI, but I wonder if somebody could confirm whether Freesync works with Steam Link hardware or not?

If yes then I'll buy a used Steam Link.

No, but it also probably wouldn't help. The video stream frame rate is already going to dictate the frame pacing of the final result you see. Remember, the Link isn't running the game, and isn't going to output at the game's original frame rate, it's just playing back the video that it captured.

What you're probably noticing is either performance hitches in the app or stream itself, or temporal artifacts from the capture rate and game frame rate not being in sync.

Thought so...

Although I hoped that there was some clever stream implementation where the Freesync could read the stream's framerate and act accordingly or something like that.
