Steam Link

Steam Link

Tony Hawk 1+2 bought on Epic
I hope this is helpful for someone, or even myself, but I tried to get this to work over Steam Link and I had problems. Basically the controller wouldn't work and would do the thing to where it pretends it's a keyboard. I'm ashamed to say that I am not as well versed with this hardware as I likely should be, so it might be a simple fix.

Can confirm I have the same issue, so far I've not found a solution though.

I just spent most of last night trying to make this work. I think the issue is that THPS1+2 trys to boot the epic launcher first which gums everything up. This is the solution I found:

I used a tool called SteamGridDB to import the game as a non-steam game. I'm not clear whats happening, but it looks like it's launching the game through the epic launcher with powershell and adding a set of launch options. https://www.steamgriddb.com

Once the shortcut is created I navigated to it in big picture mode, went into manage shortcut, then controller options. Uncheck "Allow Desktop configuration in Launcher."

add epic launcher as a non steam game, then steam should forward controls to it

epic launcher automatically hides behind big picture after launched. this is really frustrating but it's on epic's end.

Is there a way to get it to launch THPS directly though if you add Epic as a non-Steam game? I saw a suggestion on reddit to add the THPS desktop shortcut path in the launch options (the com.epicgames.launcher:// one) but that doesn't launch THPS automatically for me.

check if the epic launcher can make a shortcut for the game on the desktop
then add that as the non steam game

navigating launchers from controller is difficult
but you can set the controller chord profile to move mouse/clicks esc/enter
then hold guide/px/x/chord button to run start the game from the launcher

(be sure to untick guide focuses steam in steam -> settigns -> controller -> [general] )

i often use left stick for fast mouse, dpad for slow mouse, lt left click, rt right click, circle/b esc, a enter, y winkey, right stick scroll up/dn, back/select/windows media stop, start/fwd/menu/hamburger media play, x/square media next

covers most uses

Is there anyone that can confirm that they got a working solution?
I purchased the game myself but refunded it when I didn't get it working. That said, the only thing I tried was to add the games .exe as non steam game, which resulted in no working controller and the image was amazingly laggy, while super smooth on pc. (not connectivity issue because other games run perfectly smooth).

Yeah, I mean I added THPS directly as a non-steam game, didn't bother with the Epic nonsense, but I think the Epic stuff hooked it in the background anyway. Just seems to me that if I take the same controller and move it from the PC to the Steam link I should expect similar results, but that's not the case. Fairly disappointing that it doesn't just work like a different monitor and USB port and that there's a ton of needless software in the way.

Try using SteamGridDB to import your games to Steam. https://www.steamgriddb.com/
It was the only way I could get the Epic Games version of SnowRunner to work with a controller through Steam Link.

It's the DRM requiring Epic to be in the background. Add the game using SteamGridDB to import your games to Steam. https://www.steamgriddb.com/

Can anyone confirm if using SteamGridDB to import THPS1+2 into Steam will allow it to work with Steam Link and a controller?

This was the only thing that worked for me after many attempts. Thank you for the solution! I can play on my SteamLink with Xbox 360 controller and the game actually recognizes it as a controller!

Hey Syko,

What did you do? And what do I do with steamgriddb?

I managed to import thps 1+2 to steam, but as one other has said controller not working. I have looked on steamgriddb but not sure what to do. Can you please let me know step by step what you did to get it working please? And what to do with steamgriddb, as I click on the download but all I get is an image afterwards.

Thanks in advance.

This above worked perfectly, thank you. I will say I tried different ways of adding the epic games to steam and it only works through steamgrid, you will always have to disable 'allow desktop configuration in launcher' and epic games store will have to be completely closed before starting a game so the steam shortcut can open a fresh instance. This also works with all epic games.
