Best Option for 1440p or even 4K streaming?
Hi guys,

i've really been enjoying my steam link lately on 1080p but i've wanted to improve the picture quality a bit and maybe play at 2k, 4k might be a little too difficult to run for my computer.
I wanted to know what could be the best option here.. i have a samsung tv and already saw the app there but i also need to workaround the nvidia settings since i'm usually playing on 1080 on my pc.

What is the best solution for playing at a higher resolution? Or will there maybe be an update to display higher resolutions with the steam link hardware itself one day? I'd like to stick to the little streaming box tbh since i don't really like how this whole controller support thing on the samsung tv will work out. A bluetoothdongle is all good but the thought of having to construct a weird setup for charging my ps4 controller gives me nightmares.

Or maybe im just wrong about the quality improvement and should stick to 1080p? It looks great but i'd like to have the best possible quality. My steam link settings are all set to beautiful without a bandwidth limit but i wonder if there's any way for even better picture quality.

Thanks in advance :)

build a htpc or use an android box with 4k output
but the android box may not have a gpu strong enough to decode the 4k signal

the intel hd or amd apu on ryzen can handle 4k decoding and display just fine

the older intel nuc wasnt much bigger than the link
not sure if they have any newer ones that have hdmi 2.0

SteamLink itself is only capable of doing 1080P. If you want higher resolution, you will need to use the software version on a more powerful hardware or an alternative solution to Steam Link.

Personally, I would recommend you the Nvidia Shield Pro, as it is still a smaller device and plenty powerful to run what you need.

To get higher than 1080p resolution on your PC, enable DSR (dynamic super resolution) in the NVIDIA Control Panel under 3D settings.

How to enable DSR :

To stream at 1440p or 4K use one of these :

Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K (70$ USD) :

NVIDIA Shield (Tegra X1 processor) (200$ USD) :

at the $100-200 range, look for a used laptop with a hdmi 2.0 port that supports 4k
no dedicated gpu for 4k streaming

i fixed my issues, found a looong usb cable and now im using my samsung smart TV and the app with nvidia DSR, the quality is way better in 2k on such a big display than it was in 1080p, can't run 4k though but i dont mind. Input lag is below 1ms and everything is really smooth :)

hdmi cable is better if the tv is close enough to use one
