Slight lag issues streaming desktop (VLC)

I've recently set up a steam link and have been streaming my desktop to watch movies using VLC which worked fine before getting internet connected. After getting an internet connection, i've started to experience slight audio/video skips. Using the performance monitoring tool shows it spiking to around 80ms from the normal 30ms randomly every 30seconds to 1min but it only lasts around a 10th of a second but still noticeable.

I'm currently running the beta build with the steam link connected to a power over ethernet adapter. Computer is running a 780ti and a i5 processor. My download speed is 80mbps tested over speedtest and I have tried changing in-home streaming options which makes it slightly less noticeable on Fast vs Beautiful.

I'm wondering whether anyone has had this issue and whether the issue is due to:
- VLC
- PoE adapter
- Internet
- Settings

The odd thing is this wasn't an issue until getting an internet connection to my home. Any ideas?

When you say "PoE adapter" do you mean powerline networking?[en.wikipedia.org] PoE is something different.[en.wikipedia.org]

If you do mean powerline networking, that's normally where I'd expect the problem to be coming form with that setup, though if it was working fine before that's a bit suspicious. Did they install a new router when your new internet connection was installed? Are you able to move the Link closer and just try without using powerline just to eliminate it as a possibility?
