Steam Link

Steam Link

Just bought Steam Link - wtf this is garbage?
How do people even play on this? I got everything connected properly and when I'm in big picture mode for example, it takes 3-5 seconds for it to register my input. On top of this, sound is distorted and the picture quality is that of a 2008 youtube video. WTF? The streaming to the TV is horrendous.

I'm using Steamlink to connect via wifi, but my wifi is fine. My desktop PC is connected using ethernet, no problems there.

Everything is up to date, including Steam Link, the controller, etc. I'm using a 1080 GPU, maybe that isn't enough? I have no idea.

WiFi that is fine for pretty much every other purpose can still be insufficient for the Steam Link. What are the results of the Link's network test?

Yeah I would advise against wireless. I struggled with ♥♥♥♥♥♥ quality for awhile until I just decided to hardwire everything. If you have a brand new $300 wireless AC router and you don't live in a congested apartment, then you might be okay.

But where the real money is at... the Steam link app for newer Samsung Smart TV's. Holy sh!t did they ever improve the quality. Almost 1 to 1. Plus the Samsung App can do 4K. If that's an option, get it.

I think the hardware within the Steam Link is now dated and old. Once they come out with a new 4K set top option, it'll be much better but for now, the Steam Link app is the way to go.

wifi n/ac is faster than the links 10/100 lan port

check the tv settings, disable all image processing on it and put it to game mode
even on wifi link has a very small delay, under 1 frame behind the pc
but the tv can delay that signal 1000+ms for image smoothing, soap opera effects, jpg noise reduction and 60-120hz conversion

You don't need faster... You need no lag, and no errors.
In every way wifi is always worse than a wire, no matter if you can have a higher throughput.

2.4ghz has less lag/drop than 5ghz

with link wifi i notice no lag/difference than other pc on lan

just make sure that there is little wifi interference and the tv has no input delay and all games will be playable

It's your wifi. Ditch that ♥♥♥♥ and use ethernet

At this point, it's shorter to use an hdmi and connect that to my tv from my computer rather than using ethernet.

Consider powerline plugs, that is what I use, saves on lots of messy wiring... Works perfectly for me

Tell me more. I've got a Samsung smart TV and I did see the news about the app. But I figured it was just an easy way to pair the Link with the PC. Does it actually change how the Link interfaces with the TV and the home network?
