Steam Link

Steam Link

Steam says PC offline when it isn't
I last used the steam link last week and it worked fine.

Just tried using it this morning and now it keeps telling me that my host PC is offline when it fact it is not. I've checked the host PC and steam is in online mode and I can browse the internet normally.

I use a hardwire connection and steam can find this and tells me I have an ethernet connection, but keeps tellling me it can't find a host PC. I've tried:

Rrestarting my PC and steam as well as the steam link multiple times.
Swapping both steam on my host and link to beta build and back again.
Asking the steam link to update.
Performing a steam link factory reset.

None of these have helped. Can anyone shed any light on this?

link says the pc is offline if

link is on a different subnet than pc
pc ip has changed since the last time linik has seen the pc on the network
steam is not running on the pc

It always shows the Steam Link _as long_ as I reboot Steam.
Although, I have to do this, every, single, time.

I do not know what a subnet is. My IP is static (I think?) as long as I do not kill the power to the router. That assigns new IP adresses.

if you are turning off the pc or link for long periods it can get a new ip from the router
log into the router and set its dhcp lease time to 2+ days (2880+ minutes)

What if your link is connected to a subnet via a switch/router off of your modem/router. It will see the PC when direct connected to modem/router but not when connected through switch/router?

if its a smart/managed switch or router, log into it and disable its dhcp and make it a dumb switch (on a slave router change its ip to its own subnet and do not plug anything into its internet port)

Update on this:

Still getting the exact same problem. My partner and I both connect to the same router, the router is then hard wired to a power adaptor at the wall. The steam link is linked up to the adaptor downstairs by ethernet cable. Steam link picks up her PC, not mine. Checked the steam versions and we are both running the exact same versions. Tried plugging a cable into the same slot her PC uses successfully to connect to the link for mine instead, and guess what, mine still doesn't work.

Any other ideas? As I say my internet connection works perfectly and I play plenty of online games such as Overwatch without issue, and up until a few weeks ago we were both able to connect to the link. Is it possible my PC might not be linked to the same network somehow, and if so, how do I correct this? This is getting very exasperating as I'm sure you can imagine!

I fixed it!
I simply formatet my computer and now it works!

Haha. I think the easier way would to remove the computer from Steam Link and try to refind the computer. Now it's showing up every time :)
A bit late but I managed to get mine working, wound up adding the IP address manually for my PC and now it finds it every time.

I have an Ethernet PC, but then i set it to the wireless connection the Steam Link was connected to, and it still doesn't find my PC.

powerline sucks
run a wire if you can

if using wifi, log into the router and make sure wifi isolation is disabled
