Steam Link

Steam Link

Steam link not recognizing controllers in game, only on menus.
Title. I have a 360 controller wired that I use plugged into my Steam link, and although it works across menus (even in game opening up steam overlay) it refuses to work for any game input itself. So I can really just fiddle around the steam big picture mode, and it's useless inside actually providing input for games. This just started happening recently and I don't know what caused it. I reset the controller configuration on Steam Link's home menu, went over the controller setting in the stream menu, etc. and still the same result. What's the solution here, am I missing something obvious or is Steam link really this darn troublesome?

I have a DS4 controller (also wired), and seem to be having the same issue. Only responds in Big Picture menu.

My Hori HRAP V is unresponsive as well. Seems like whatever recent update happened knocked everything out of whack.

Close to calling it quits on this device entirely.

EDIT - Tried the setting in-game and in the stream menu. No difference.

i used to have this problem to. the solution for this is virtualhere. you can buy it on steam. what it doest is making your computer think your controller is connected to the pc so it will work on pretty much any game. i had this problem with bayonetta, DS3 and resident eveil 7 which i added as non steam games. when the game started i did not had any control. when i plugged the controller in the computer everything worked fine, while on steam link it didnt. now with virtualhere it works perfeclty with all my games.

Thank you for he suggestion! I actually tried virtualhere about a year ago. Unfortunately it didn't seem to work as intended.

I think something else is going on just not sure what or how else to fix it. It's too bad since I really enjoyed expanding my PC gaming to experience to a larger monitor.

Can you try opting into the latest Steam Client Beta (Under Settings->Account) and see if you're still having this issue?

Thanks!

Hi

same issus here since this weed-end.
My steam controller work perferctly but PS3 and PS4 controller doesn't work (work only on menu but no in game).

My PS3 and PS4 controller are detected as "General Xinput Device", before the problem, steam detected as "PS3 Controller"..

I have tried Beta/public of steam client/link.

I have tried updating the client. I was able to get a few of my recent games to work, although, not without some flaw. Bayonetta reads the DS4 as a K&M, as does Dragons Dogma. Deadpool seems to work fine.

I'm guessing it has something to do with the explicit registration of the devises. Is there any way to DE-register the DS4back to and unregistered state? I believe that is the best way forward, as that is what it says when I am not streaming and plugged in directly to my PC with any of my controllers.

EDIT = The only other thing I can think of is would the windows D Xinput tool be interfering somehow with Steam Link while streaming? Running out of ideas and patience. I really don't want to be forced into buying a Steam controller

Are you opting in to PS4 configuration support in the controller menu?

This will allow you to set whatever configuration you'd like for each game, but that includes mouse and keyboard settings.

If you uncheck PS4 configuration support, it should behave as it did previously via the Link.

I'm having the same issue. All worked perfectly before but some days ago I tried to play again via Steam Link to "The walking dead season 2" and it just does not recognizes the controller. No matter what controller I plug in (steam controller, 360...) when I'm inside the game, it expects input from the mouse only. Tried with public and beta version and nothing works :( please help

I have the same issue. Sometimes if I unplug and plug back in the controller a few times it works.

I've been having the same issue for the last few days. Steam Link either doesn't recognize the controller at all (I can see the controller in the settings and guide the Big Picture menu but it doesn't work in-game) or it works but the rumble is disabled even though all the options for it are on. I've tried both the public and the beta build; both of them have the same problem.

Just got my Steam Link and my Windows Xbox 360 controller won't work with Fire Watch or House of the Dying Sun. Only Fallout 4 worked flawlessly.

Im having this issue too. I had the steam link for almost a year now and this is the first time my controller hasn't worked in my desktop with other apps. I noticed that there is new controller options called base options, and this virtualhere 3rd party BS-oftware. Valve, don't ask me to buy 3rd party BS software for something that should be included in the hardware. If this is some ploy to get me to buy virtualhere, I'm going to find another device than the steam link.

One of the things I noticed a couple weeks ago when having issues with my dualshock 4 was that Big Picture Mode was very specific about either making sure the Steam Overlay was active. Bayonetta and Dragons Dogma were my problem games. Once I activated Steam Overlay on those specific titles, they worked as normal.

There are a few other games that will not recognize controllers unless you "opt in" to the new controller config support option. and some that won't work no matter what you do. Past that, you may need to follow SDalton's instructions and uncheck the any specific controller support so that Steam Link will recognize it only as a generic controller. I think.

My DS4 controller was working fine until the last update. It works in the first screen where you chose which device to stream from but then the controller stops working in big picture mode. Tried opting in to Beta but still the same
