Excessive Compression Artifacts During Steamlink Remote Play
Sometime in the last month or two or three (maybe more?) I've started having excessive compression artifacts while streaming from my PC to my steamlink. My PC is connected by Ethernet to my router. My router then connects to the steamlink over 5ghz 802.11ac.

I've tried every toggle and combination of settings in the remote play options settings menu but nothing improves the situation.

Here is a link to an album with a video I took of tomb raider. It also includes a picture of steam big picture mode as I even get excessive artifacts there though it's harder to tell as my photography skills suck.

I had all of the streaming quality settings set to max. The performance details say I have 100Mb/s connection but it streams at 1000-2000 kb/s I've given up on Witcher 3 as it's virtually unplayable with the artifacts.

Any tips or recommendations on how to resolve this? I have an i5-6600K and geforce 970 gtx. 16gb of ram. It should definitely be sufficient especially as it didn't always have this issue.

if on lan, set the client bandwdith to unlimited
over wiif or internet, you will need to run the test to see what its max/average speeds are

I've tried setting the bandwidth to unlimited. I have a solid 100Mb+ connection. I'll try setting it lower though and see if that works for some reason.

"Unlimited" and "automatic" both can have weird behaviours where they don't correctly determine your max bandwidth. Manually setting 30Mbps will often give you higher rates than the "unlimited" setting.

what are the host settings?

is it capable of gaming and streaming?

steam -> settings -> remote play -> [advanced]
untick dynamically adjust capture res
tick hardware encoding and amd/nvidia/intel
(whatever gpus are installed and enabled in the system)

Manually specifying a bandwidth other than automatic or unlimited worked. Thanks everyone!

Silly me for thinking unlimited would work differently than automatic...
