Steam Link

Steam Link

Steam Link still lack behind Parsec and Moonlight.
Why is this? Both wired and wireless apps like Parsec and Moonlight are so much smoother than Steam Link. It surely depends on the game, but if the game doesn't perform well using Steam Link, I usually just have to switch to either Parsec or Moonlight to solve it.

Fix this, Valve.

On better hardware? The other apps run my games smooth, while the Steam Link sucks in some games the other apps don`t

if performance depends on the game, its an issue with the host pc

It surely isn't a issue when using other streaming clients

Try making sure no other screen capture or streaming services are running when using Steam Anywhere/IHS

You may find other streaming apps work even better if you switch IHS off in Steam client when not using IHS too.

About a year ago, when Steam Link App for android was first made available I found having Gamestream enabled in GFE and being logged into same Nvidia account in Nvidia Games Hub as GFE somehow messed with Steam Link App and performance of IHS.

Am seeing similar issues since Steam Anywhere update but my old workarounds do not work.

Not tried rolling back to Steam stable client in host pc to use IHS instead of Steam Anywhere

Other limitations of the cloud gaming service I use for host pc prevents me enjoying or using Steam Link App easily, so have just been using its own native streaming tech. Have asked provision of web client to act as console for managing cloud vm too help with better support of third party streaming apps but unfortunately there is not much hope of that happening. Still a possibility some solution will be found, but for now I can't use Steam Link App with Steam Anywhere. Its unusable. Desktop streams okay but games are dropping a lot of frames, making them unplayable. Can't use 4K stream capture at all, which was not the case a year ago.

Steam Link App with latest updates simply is not performing anywhere near as well as it was a year ago for me, but see limitations and restrictions with the cloud vm I am currently using being the main cause.

Thanks, this answer was way better. Moonlight and Parsec is pretty damn smooth, while Sonic Mania is stuttering a bit. I will try what you said.

I don't get what you want. Go use Parsec and Moonlight instead then. Complaining to us about how much better they are won't magically fix any problems you have.

For what it's worth I don't share your experience. Parsec has been flat out terrible and I have literally spent hours trying everything under the sun just so my brother and I could play A Hat in Time. We eventually did get it to work, but it was constantly problematic for us. Parsec is "okay".

Moonlight is much much better and a true competitor for Steam Link app, but it's a mixed bag for some games and Steam Link is generally more useful with stuff like controllers. Moonlight is non-nonsense though so it's good for simple stuff like Visual Novels.

Currently, I'd easily rate Steam Link app over Moonlight but not by much. I have both installed to tinker with. Would definitely not recommend Parsec. It works, but with Moonlight and Steam Link existing it's kind of pointless to use as anything but a coop screenshare app.

I dont understand- I'm trying to use Steam Link in combination with Parsec- so I can play Cuphead while my friend hosts the game on his PC. How is steam link a competitor to Parsec? Do they not serve completely different functions?

in my expirience steam link has much much less latancy than parsec but parsec has a crisp clean image
