Steam Link

Steam Link

Minecraft with steamlink??
I am trying to play minecraft java edition (the original minecraft not windows 10 version) via steam link and I have 2 issues.

One is that the launcher doesn't show up when I launch it through steamlink... you have to click play on the actual PC which is far from me to get minecraft to actually work.

The 2nd is that I can't make the controller work with minecraft. I'm using a xbox one controller with bluetooth. It is setup right but I'm guessing maybe java edition doesnt support controllers?

I have switched it to keyboard and mouse mode in steam and it does work but I'm not sure how I can cycle through the hotbar.

Sorry I know this isn't exclusively about the steamlink but I would like to get this game working through steamlink as I bought it years ago and I prefer this version (it is fully updated) over the windows 10 version because of the shaders and other stuff that I have that only work with it.

Help appreciated, thanks.

Yeah.. I don't know of any other way to launch it through steam without doing so.

you can exit bpm and run it from dekstop mode
but when games run that way they do not see the links controller

check the steams controller mapping for the game
begin streaming -> steam -> library -> right click on minecraft -> steam controller
select the links controller -> set it to defaults

Yeah that makes no sense to me but thanks anyway. Why would I exit big picture mode when I'm using a controller through steam link, knowing I need the controller to work? And I can't navigate with the controller via steam link outside of bpm.

I need 2 things, to be able to launch minecraft without the launcher popping up and to be able to cycle through the hotbar with the controller.

you can navigate desktop and bpm with a controller

or go back to the host pc while streaming

look at steam controller mappings for desktop/chord/bpm
steam -> settings -> controller
each controller can have its own mappings

2024: Still problem with getting Steam Link controller (PS3) accepted by MineCraft Java, in game. Only Mouse control seams to work with PS3 controller. PS3 L- joy as well as as directional buttons is non detected during Minecraft key-remapping. Worked in 2022. Anyone have an idea here for solution?
