Steam Link App for Roku?
I'm wondering if any progress is being made towards a Roku TV app? Many smart TVs come with Roku and it would be super easy to interface with. Since they stopped selling the Steam Link hardware, I was hoping they would have more software options, but I don't really see anything other than Android and Samsung TVs

the update would be a hardware redesign. Their current chips don't support streaming. When you're watching a video on a roku, it's sent as packets to it which are re-assembled. This adds a ton of latency which makes game streaming impossible.

Bump, now that the Steam Link device is no longer being sold, and the cheapest Raspberry Pi you can get that has the wifi performance to stream is $50+ USD, there needs to start being Steam Link apps on all smart TVs, especially Roku devices.

Thanks! I feel like they took away the Steam Link device much too early. They should have had support for things like Roku and other platforms ready, if not already available when they shut down production.

Yeah, exactly. Luckily I was able to grab a Steam Link on sale before they sold out (and it works great!), but they definitely should have had more apps available before stopping production.
Bump. I'd like to see this too. Very recently received a Roku TV and I'd love very much to be able to play my controller-friendly games on it.

So what is the status on this ?

This can't happen. Roku hardware doesn't actually support real time streaming. Video apps must send chunks of data to be reassembled and this adds about a full second of latency.

roku also does not support controllers or other input devices

I was just about to buy a Roku TV, glad I looked for the SteamLink app capability on here first...

I do know that they have support for Apple TVs now. I use it on mine, and Apple TVs come with an ethernet port which is basically necessary for getting rid of lag

Samsung TVs can get the steam link for free. Just like phones and tablets. I recently bought a 32 inch Samsung TV from Walmart for $140. It's operating system is definitely different than roku. Steam link works great on it and you can use a controller through the TV or pc

I'm also gonna bump this. It's a shame that we can't get the steam link device anymore, I'd have loved to have picked one up. I've got a roku TV, I'm kinda attached to it and don't want to spend the money to buy a new TV when I've already got one that works really well for everything else. I'd love it if there were a steam link app for the Roku like there is for samsung's smart TV OS.

You can buy a raspberry pi and put an OS on there that supports steam link. Works as good, if not better than the original steam link hardware. Personally, I use an nvidia shield and put steam link app on there.

Bump. Roku customer waiting for Steam support.

bumping won't do anything for you. I said earlier, Roku does not have the necessary hardware decoder. It will NEVER have game streaming services on it.

Bump. I would love to stream some game sweetness to my Roku.
