Steam Link

Steam Link

Black screen @ password/lock screen on connect. (Windows 10)
Hi,

I'm having issues with (hardware) Steam Link, when it connects to my host PC while the host PC is at a lock screen.

I can see a mouse cursor render on the TV. I can see the data/graphs/information, because I have that enabled. I cannot interact with the screen, or press any keyboard buttons, or any combination and have it result in it displaying the login screen.

If I prompt the password screen on the host PC, I can then interact with it like normal using a keyboard/mouse from my Steam Link, enter the password, and log in. So if I never lock my PC, this wouldn't be an issue. But I do, so it is.

I have temporarily found a work around here:

https://www.windowscentral.com/how-disable-windows-10-lock-screen

Basically there's two parts to the login screen. The blank screen, before the password screen, and the password prompt. This disables the first part, so when the PC goes into a lock screen, you'll never have to prompt it to enter the password.

This basically fixes the issue. I was just here report it and hope for a fix!

TL;DR: If you have black screen at login, when you connect to your host PC from Steam Link, try the instructions at the link.

Thanks for this, it's insane that this advice isn't prominently suggested by Steam when a user switches on game streaming.

What I find interesting about this, is that if I use a nVidia shield device, and use the game stream to play, say The Witcher 3, nvidia can get around the locked screen and load up The Witcher 3 via Steam, but Steam Link can't.

Is anyone still having this issue?

I get the black screen when waking my computer from the Steam Link app on my phone (iPhone X / iOS 13). I noticed that when this issue occurs and I'm able to see the PC screen in person, it's simply sitting there at the login screen waiting for me to type in my password - I don't have any previous type of "lock" screen or anything prior to signing into my computer via password. If/when this happens and I'm unable to physically be near my PC, it will just sit there at the login screen until I can manually turn it off or login (which kinda stinks and defeats the purpose).

Any workarounds, fixes, or settings I can tweak to get rid of this issue? Thanks.
