Steam Link

Steam Link

Steam Link unable to connect to Host computers:
I've been posting on other peoples posts but decided to create my own to get to the bottom of this nonsense.

Steam Link was working perfectly streaming from host PC upstairs to living room downstairs via wired cat6 cable. Then both the PC and steamlink are connected to the same Virgin media router. Was working perfectly like I said, was amazed at how perfectly it was working and then one day boom. "Cannot connect to host computer" or "No computers running Steam found".

I'm not going to go into all the networking troubleshooting malarky I've done since I don't think it's a network issue as per my previous update below, but I can do if someone has a trick to get this working.

So, update:

After pricking around with networking settings for days, I don't believe it's a networking issue at all. I've realised that not only can the Steam Link not find the host computer, it has no internet connectivity at ALL. It's unable to check for updates and asks if the Link is connected to the internet. When I disconnect the LAN cable WiFi works fine. So I thought the thernet port was fooked.

Here's where it gets interesting:

I've factory reset twice, and during the setup process the Steam Link is able to connect to the interenet and download the most up to date firmware, VIA WIRED ETHERNET.

Once setup is complete, wired ethernet no longer works for connecting to host computer OR connecting to internet.

Any help folks? This was working so well and I really want it back. A shield tv would be the alternative but not really in the budget this week.

Cheers,

check the network cable or try a different one

do you get any activity lights on the link when the cable is plugged in?

Cables have been checked and are fine. Same outcome with 3 different ones. Yes there is LED activity lights - but no network connectivity when attempted

It DID have an IP, and not sure about pinging it. I'll try this again when home. If I can(or can not), what would you suggest?

if you can ping it, it should have internet access

are you using the beta or public 661?

If for some reason I can no longer find the Steam Link's IP or able to ping it, what would you recommend?

I've tried both the public and BETA. Beta was working fine with Switch pro controller support.

Thanks for input.

Cool I'll try this and report back tomorrow since I'm working late.

Cheers again 👍

So, busy week and didn't get around to messing with this again until yesterday. I did another factory reset and was about to install an earlier build except IT WORKED. It worked perfectly all evening until today. Same issue again.

I think the issue is the Virgin Media (ISP) router. Upon trying to log into the admin settings it's timing out and crashing. I'm going to try have the Seam Link and PC connected to a different router later tonight. I'll see if that's sorted it.
