[Solved] How to connect a analogue 5.1 sound system to the Steam Link?
Hi there,

my freshly purchased Steam Link has arrived and it is set up and works with two controllers, but I have no sound as my living room beamer takes only the video over the HDMI cable not the sound. I have a Creative Inspire P580 5.1 sound system with 6 channels (specs[www.cnet.com]) in my living room installed.

Could you please suggest something to connect my Creative Inspire P580 to my Steam Link? Or is there a list of compatible hardware for the Steam Link?

I have read so far that I could plug a 5.1 USB Soundcard in the single rear USB slot of the Steam Link and connect the 3 analog audio jacks to that card. But which 5.1 USB Soundcard is supported on the Steam Link? And do I need to purchase VirtualHere to get this to work?

Thanks for any helping tips. :-)

Look for HDMI Audio Extractors. They can grab the audio data from the HDMI stream and split it out into a different output.

Can you recommend a HDMI Audio Extractors that delivers more than stereo?

Short version: My Problem is solved, as I hope this helps somebody here are the information in a brief manner. If you search for a way to split your audio from the video signal to connect analogue surround systems with 6 or more channels you can buy a signal splitter to do this. Here[www.amazon.com] is an example for such a splitter in America and this[www.amazon.de] example is such a splitter used in the european area.

Long version: Thanks a lot for the replies, sadly the HDMI Audio Extractor[www.amazon.com] that Xenophobe postet is only available in America which is not were I live. This means it has a hefty shipping price for me that increases the price to ~97$/ ~83€ a piece. Also the delivery would take some weeks.

After a some searching I think I found and purchased the EU version of it. It is called UNKNOWN BRANDNAME HDMI 4K2K Audio Extraktor LPCM 7.1 for 45$ / 38€. Since they change the UNKNOWN BRANDNAME you can identify it best by the pictures. Also you can setup analog 5.1 sound systems to these 7.1 boxes, all you have to do is put your three audio jacks in while leaving RL/RR empty. Here is an example[www.amazon.de] for that sold via Amazon under the name Rotronic ROLINE HDMI 4K2K Audio Extraktor LPCM 7.1 .

It was not that easy as the HDMI Audio Extractor[www.amazon.com] that Xenophobe postet looks pretty much like a noname device. I managed to find details about it here[www.ambery.com]. That helped to find the Europes equivalent of that splitter. :-)
