Nah, won't work.
Valve would need to make a WebOS version themselves, or LG would need to be massively pressured to do it.
Neither have any incentive to do so...
LG is huge, and Steam is the biggest pc platform... you'd think they would have made the app already.
It sucks that they have stadia and GeForce now but don’t have steam. That really is a bummer.
I’m considering selling my LG Tv and buying a Samsung Tv just because of this feature.
Don't change TV. Buy a media box like NVIDIA Shield TV or something instead.
I own both LG 4K TV and Samsung 4K TV, but i like WebOS better.
Shield TV have everything in game streaming. GFN, Steam, Stadia, Game Pass and even Playstation Now game streaming. Shield TV also have many alternative game streaming apps.
Same box also supports Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, HDR, Dolby Vision, AI Scaling etc.
Superior to any TV. Streams up to 4K/60.
Shield TV is also by far more powerful than any TV.
TV's today have to many limitations.
NVIDIA Shield TV solves the problem for everyone here.
I mean, so far as I know, they didn't actually make it for Samsung either, despite Samsung having the app natively. So far as I understand it, Samsung asked Valve "can we do a native Steam Link for our Tizen TVs" and Valve went "okay, here's the codebase for the Linux version, enjoy".
Presumably if LG asked Valve "can we do a native Steam Link for our TVs", Valve would have the same sort of response. But LG seems to have the attitude of "meh, if Valve wants to do it, I guess", and it does not seem that Valve wants to do it.
Truthfully, I would be surprised if they had a big team working on Steam Link inside Valve at this point in its lifecycle; I suspect the team as it stands is sufficient to maintain the existing versions, not to really sit down and write entire new ones. (Especially since they're still doing updates and support for the dedicated hardware box!)
Valve is a big company, yes, but that doesn't mean every team inside the company is big.
I had to buy it off eBay though, since they don't manufacture these anymore.
But you can still find them in good condition.
It's a viable option, just make sure it's a trustworthy seller.
If you go this route, you might need to update the Steam link before using it.
I bought it too, but it is limited to 1080p and only 60hz 60 FPS. With more powerful hardware such as the one inside the TV or the Samsung TV people can do 1080p 120hz 120 FPS and 4k 60 too, so the steam link hardware is not the best solution
Never heard about NVIDIA Shield TV? It streamed games at 4K/60 already in early 2015.
Shield TV is still fully supported in 2022 with new firmwares.

It's the fastest Tv OS I've seen. The problem is that LG are lazy when it comes to their app store, otherwise it would be perfect, in my opinion.

Thank you very much for the moonlight, it really works. Of course, a native WebOS application would be more effective and easy to use, but this open-source app is pretty enough for me.
