Steam Link

Steam Link

Affordable steam link alternative?
Now that valve has stopped selling the steam link (I missed the last sale over the holiday) are there any alternatives out there? I would like to do 4k output to my front room tv, but am not sure on a few things. First off now that steam link is on android does that mean the google chromecast ultra 4k will work? I have also read andoid tv boxes will work, but not sure how well. I have also seen that steam link is on rasperry pie now, but not really too interested in messing with linux. Any other alternatives out there besides just building a dummy pc?

even a pi3 cant do 4k good enough to stream it

I have done it with cheap laptops, it really doesn't take that much if you have a solid network. I used to do it on my i5 surface pro 4 with 4gb of ram. I am tempted to use a rasperry pi, but uggg, i hate linux :(

yea, I bought one and realize that when I couldn't go beyond 1080p, and of course on top of that it didn't even want to work with my logitech k400 plus. Guess I need to look more.

pi3b+ hdmi 1.4 can do 4k 30hz
pi3c1+ has hdmi 2.0 and can do 4k 60hz

but streaming will be much lower due to its weak arm

What? No, the Pi is limited to 1080p. And there is no "Pi 3 C1+" or whatever you're talking about

Yeah at 15Hz, so not even adequate for desktop use

He's probably thinking of the ODROID-C1+ board, since replaced with the C2.
