Steam Link for Nintendo Switch..Any plans for that?
Steam Link already support Switch controllers, but would be great if Steam Link app were ported to Switch too.

Nintendo would more than likely not license it.

apple licensing the app in their own store is more likely

Steam Link is available for NVIDIA Shield TV, and all other Android devices with Android 5 and newer.
I think it's also on Linux now.

It's available on the Raspberry Pi 3 B/B+ and 4, however those platforms are deliberately open to be hacked so Valve doesn't need any permission.

While Nintendo Switch has the same ARM processor as the other mentioned systems the Nintendo Switch, just like previous Nintendo consoles and handhelds, has strict licensing for both anti-piracy and content rules. While Steam Link wouldn't bypass the anti-piracy features, it does allow streaming content from unrestricted systems.

The question is still relevant :) Has anyone heard rumors? Especially, after the iOS app is available meanwhile ;)

The Nintendo Switch seems like a near-perfect match for the SteamLink app, hardware wise. Sadly, I suspect that Nintendo has even more reasons to reject such an app than Apple, as Steam doesn't directly compete with mobile touch-screen gaming, but does directly compete with most non-exclusives of the Switch.

Mind you, I'd gladly buy or even rebuy many games for the Switch, despite higher prices, just in order to play them on a dedicated "couch gaming" device. Only for modding-heavy games like Skyrim I would prefer local streaming over a native Switch game, or when not being able to import the PC save game is a major stopper.

I'd gladly pay $150 for the Steam Link app on Switch. Valve please make it happen.

Actually let me correct myself. I'd gladly rebuy the games IF they had save game sync... The overall experience with the Switch is a bit underwhelming, mostly because some of the games I've tried outright CRY for mouse input. Given my existing hardware, a working, low-latency in-home streaming solution would have been superior :(

Switch have save game sync. It uploads saves to server on all games here.

I'd be very surprised if we ever officially saw Steam Link on the Switch. Nintendo is just not the kind of company to do such a thing. We barely even got YouTube more than a year and a half after the Switch released. There's also the point that this might incentivize some people to buy their games on Steam rather than for the Switch or not to buy a Switch game that they already own on Steam. I don't think the potential increase in Switch hardware sales can make up for that.

That being said, it is possible to use Steam Link on a hacked Switch today and apparently it even runs quite well. There are ways to run Android on a Switch, which gives access to pretty much any Android app, including the Steam Link app. I don't know any details on how to do that though and I'm not even sure if I were allowed to post them here, but anyone who's seriously interested should look into that. Just keep in mind that there's always a risk of your console being banned by Nintendo or even getting bricked when doing stuff like that.

They were talking about syncing their saves between the PC and Switch versions of a game. That is only possible for a very, very small handful of games.

Given the risks to hardware and nintendo account, it makes more sense though to use an existing PC controller with some Smartphone. Unless you have a Galaxy S7, and when faced with periodic major interruptions being told by the Samsung representative, "we don't officially support real-time streaming, you're on your own there", when the behavior is clearly caused by something in their mobile networking drivers *grrr*

I would stream to a 10" Android tablet instead of hacking a Switch.
Also works fine with Game Pass.

I'd rather that they port the steam link to the 3DS and Wii U first, since those are retro consoles now. Less likely to have resistance from nintendo over dead platforms. One issue with the 3DS is that you may have to bind L3+R3 to the touch screen. Also, should not forget support for the circle pad pro accessory that was made for first gen 3DSs

And you can only press one at a time since the 3DS has a resistive, single-touch screen.

Meaning it needs an independant (L3+R3) input on the touch screen, if not reading the jitteryness of pressing both sides of the screen at the same time as a dual input

Edit: just tried it in Kid Icarus Uprising. Pressing both sides of the screen puts the cursor dead center. It's single touch for sure, but there's potential to trick the system using touch cursors. All it takes is just good UI positioning of L3 and R3 plus a invisible zone between the two that reads both. THE POTENTIAL IS THERE!!!

I believe if you press both sides the 3DS touchscreen will interpret it as the in the middle of the two presses.
