Right now i can click on "yes" or "no", which gives me the possibility respectively to: not able to interact until i close the elevated program, or, preserve the access to the system. But it concerns me that now i'm able to access the login in a blocked session, as this post states, and i'd prefer to have to be present physically on the pc as i'm a little paranoid with the permissions on remote access.
I have searched on the internet about this issue and this is the only post i find that wants to turn back on this option, like me.
I have checked on regedit and steam config files, but i don't seem to find anything.
I can't fully determine if this option is prompted by windows or steam itself, and i suppose it will come back to normal if i reinstall steam, but i'd prefer to avoid doing that.
Any idea is welcomed.
You can RDP into your PC, install VNC, connect from your client to the host and then play.
I know this is not ideal since you have an additional client on your machine, but it's still better than leaving the PC without a password.
Also: uninstalling and reinstalling Steam didn't fix it (which I did before contacting support), neither did uninstalling and reinstalling the steam link app on my phone (which is the only thing support told me to try)
edit: I think I fixed it: regedit -> Valve -> Steam -> SecureDesktop -> InputEnabled , change that from 1 to a 0.
None anywhere mentions how this is done and there seems to be no actual gui setting for it... have an award.
symptom: First id launch from my laptop to stream from my desktop at home. I would hear the sound, but the screen had that annoying secure desktop prompt, I thought I could switch to teamviewer to fix it but no luck - it would not accept remote key presses or mouse.
solution:
I had teamviewer already installed but vnc would work too. I logged in and modified this registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
change PromptOnSecureDesktop registry entry, and then change its value from 1 to 0. save and exit.
Then I rebooted the host machine. The next time I streamed the prompt still came up, but this time i was able to click the 'accept' button as if i was sitting at my desk and everything worked fine. I hope this helps someone.
Thanks, this worked for me :) Came here to add on (sorry for necro) that I found the registry key to edit at Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Valve\Steam\SecureDesktop in my case, in case anyone might have difficulty finding the key.
