Steam Link

Steam Link

Netflix and Steamlink
Hi.

Have a pretty big trouble when trying to stream netflix via steamlink.
I would have to enjoy my netflix experience with my TV (not netflix's app connected ... sadly a 2009 model) and sofa combo.

Nothing seems to work. Still have the same issu : a full blackscreen but could hear the sound of the movie/serie playing at background.

Have tried different ways :
- minimizing big picture, launching firefox/chrome/edge
-adding chrome as a non-steam game with the launch property : "--start-fullscreen --app=https://www.netflix.com"

For what i read for the moment, i guess netflix prevent from recording it's show and movies via DRM, but for some reasons, it's working with other devices like chromecast or firesticks ...

If someone succeed in steamlink+netflix flawless victory, let me know.

That's very frustrating!

:dealwithit:

Edit:
In case, my specs
-i5 3470
-gtx 1070
-steamlink via powerlines - works perfectly with games, and with Movies on VLC, not laggy at all-
-win 10

Netflix, primevideo, hidive, and some others stream perfectly well from steam bigpicture web browser to my link.
But I use an original steam machine with steamos.
I think you just have a problem with video drivers though.
Ok, then :
-GPU drivers fully updated
-Google chrome hardware acceleration disabled

Now, no more black screen ... it's working for 3-5 minits then, Tv screen freeze (still sounds in background) while perfectly working on pc screen ...

Absolutluy no ideas ... Giving up!

Did you try the Netflix app from the Microsoft Store to see if it works better?
Tried ... and failed!

Exact same symptoms that my 1st attempts : Black screen after minimizing big picture mode and launching netflix app., with sounds in background ... :meatytears:

Try to check the netflix app settings, but no Hardware acc. to enable/disable.
Not to say I can't add netflix app as a non steamgame (found windows app folder and netflix ... but absolutly no .exe)

Crappy situation :repoop:
VLC player ?

Not sure about what' you're saying ...

Do you have any weird screen compositors enabled, or something nvidia?
Steam itself will just grab the compositor and encode that. If there is another application in the way, it might get black.
Thx for the suggestion.

Have tried everything. Close every program that could have grab some cpu process, or bandwidth .
Still the same :
-black screen with native netflix App. (win 10), microsoft edge or firefox
-screen freeze with google chrome

Defenitivly good DRM ... but sorry affair for honnest netflix users :ShockedOtus:

To get rid of the Netflix/Hulu black screen on Windows 10 while using Chrome I just ran Chrome in Windows 7 compatibility mode.

  • Right click Chrome
  • Click Properties
  • Click Compatibility
  • Check "Run this program in compatibility mode"
  • Select windows 7

Hopefully this works for other people too. I think it just bypasses the Windows 10 DRM.
