Steam Link

Steam Link

Just an advice for anyone having Wake On Lan issues
I've used the Steam link App for Samsung TVs since it was in beta and, although very pleased with the streaming quality, i've never been able to wake up my PC from my TV. After trying everything suggested on the Internet, going as far as connecting the pc to the internet via usb and with ethernet directly to the Tv, i realized that my setup was simply unable to make it work.
I downloaded apps for my smartphone and my notebook to try WOL directly and they all seemed to work, so i decided to dig deeper. After analyzing the network traffic with a packet sniffer, i came to the conclusion that whenever the Wake on Lan feature was supposed to be working, it sent a blank mac code instead of the real one. For some reason, actually, the first network card seen by Windows wasn't the Ethernet itself, but rather a bluetooth connection (?) disconnected, and to my understanding, the Steam app (or Link) picks only that. After disabling it and re-pairing TV and PC it finally worked. Other network cards after the Ethernet didn't seem to make any difference, and whenever i reenable the bluetooth network card, it stops working again , so be aware of your network cards order because it may make a big difference!

This worked for me - everything else could wake my pc except steam link. Disabled my bluetooth and wireless network adapters and WoL started working.

Thank you

Thank you for this!!!! My Samsung steam link also wasn't able to WOL, while everything else can, and I could have been hunting for years to work out this random solution :P

Dude! You are a genius! Disable bluetooth in the device manager-network adapters, remove the pairing in the TV and recreated! Now I can turn the computer on and off right from the bedroom! Thanks again!

Чувак! Ты гений! Отключил блютус в диспетчере устройств-сетевые адаптеры, удалил сопряжение в телевизоре и создал заново! Теперь могу включать и выключать компьютер прям из спальни! Спасибо еще раз!

Thanks. Do you have any other way of having the Correct network adaptor on top?
Now I had to disable "Atheros Wireless Network Adaptor" and "Microsoft Kernel Debug Adapter" to make it work :/

Took me days to find this and it worked, you are a gentleman and a scholar.

Man, I tried every combination of everything and still can't get this to work despite having the same problem and everything else.

I too have had this issue for years... and finally got it to work consistently.

I would get it to work and test with WakeOnLan listener, only to have it go back to blank after shutting down my computer or reset and have to redo every time.

It was resolved after disabling other adapters in network connections except my ethernet (or you can change priority sequence) ...AND MOST IMPORTANTLY stopping my NordVPN service which was the culprit.

IF you have NordVPN (as it auto-restarts NordLynx on boot)
Do this: Windows +R > services.msc > find "nordvpn-service" > set to startup type "manual"

Then on PC, go to Steam settings>remote play> and "unpair devices"

Then on TV/s delete PC on Steam app and adding back PC from each TV with new pairing code.

It should work go forward. If you use nordvpn it will ask you to manually enable from the app. After you shut NordVPN down, remember to disable it from your adapter options again.

Hey guys,
just in case noone mentioned it before: I also fixed the problem by deactivating the bluetooth network card and reconnecting both devices. After that you are able to reactivate the bluetooth device and it is still working.
Thanks for your advice btw :)
