Steam Link
Skipping frames but without reporting any drop
Hello!

Has anyone else tested the Steam Link desktop/browser streaming with the Frame skipping test from Blur Busters?[www.testufo.com]

The conditions and problem are as follows:
  • Streaming on wired (Ethernet) connection on Full HD TV, 1080p60
  • According to performance information, no frame dropped!. All 60 frames rendered.

Tests performed:
  1. Test the Frame skipping check from above in browser window (desktop streaming)
  2. Test the Frame skipping check as a video recorded with OBS and played throguh MPC-HC

Results:
  • On the Host - the frame skipping test has the expected results (read or check how it should behave when you make a picture[www.testufo.com] with high exposure)
  • On the client (Steam link connected TV) - the results - in both cases, look negative.[www.testufo.com]

Now, I know that there might be issues due to VSYNC and the fact that it cannot be synchronized to the host - BUT - in my second test I recorded a video using OBS display capture.
I would expect that Steam link would be able to capture as good as OBS is - and then display the result without other 'holes' (skipped frames)

Is anyone else able to test this and check results?
Does anyone know of any ways to fix this?

At the moment, the result is that you literally loose smoothness and frames while streaming desktop or a movie through the Steam Link. I don't know if this happens for games (launched through Steam) also.

I also tried adding the browser and MPC-HC to Steam and launching them through Steam - but the results are the same.

It is definetly NOT Chrome because in the same time - on the host machine - it is running as it should - and I have the "READY" mark all the time when making photos - so it renders the white squares as it should (if you have read about the test)

Besides Chrome I have used MPC-HC to play a video recording (desktop capture) of the frame skipping test. That went the same way - even in MPC-HC fullscreen.
