Steam Link

Steam Link

Audio from both PC and TV simultaneously
A year ago my setup consisted of a PC connected to my TV that I would In-Home Stream to my PC so my guests can sit on the couch and watch me play while I'm on the PC. The sound on my PC would be muted and if I remember correctly, all I did was unmute and all was well.

Fast forward to today, I have replaced my TV PC (donated it) with a Steam Link and I can't figure out how to have audio out on both my TV and PC. My audio playback device choices on my PC to Steam Streaming Speakers (TV) and Realtek HD Audio (PC).

Is using a desktop Steam client the only way to get dual audio?

steam creates a audio device to capture when streaming

windows only uses 1 at a time by default

to put sound to multiple devicse use virtual audio cable
https://www.vb-audio.com/Cable/index.htm
set windows sound to use vac device
and configure vac to clone sound to default speakers and steam streaming

will add a small delay depending on host specs

Thanks for the reply! Can you please elaborate on the cloning part? I installed the software and I'm tinkering with configuration but can't get it just right.

you need to begin streaming first so steams capture device is detected

set windows sounds to the virtual cable input, and virtual cable to output to both steam streaming and pc speakers/default

Thanks again for your reply. I can only output to one listening device at a time via the cable output properties and the "VB-Audio Virtual Cable Control Panel" application doesn't seem to have anything useful.

Anyone else have experience with this application?

If you want to revert to the old audio behaviour so that you can unmute your host machine you can start Steam with the -skipstreamingdrivers option.

Bumping because this works - thank you.
Also disabled the Steam streaming speakers for good measure.

Where do I find that exactly? Thanks a lot in advance!

In the properties for the Steam application shorcut add it to the "target" field. Should look like this: https://i.imgur.com/z2Zpohe.png
