Steam Link

Steam Link

Can i run higher than 1080p resolustion?
My GFX card and monitor support 4k
But SteamLink outputs only 1080p on my 4k TV 65"
Can i get it any higher?
It's looks pretty awful, much worse than my PS4pro console.

I had though i would be able to have my PC gfx card video settings, which beat consoles by miles.

So is steamlink limited to 1080p only?

Yes, it is. No, you cannot. You would need another device capable of streaming in those resolutions, such as the Nvidia Shield.

The Steam Link hardware is limited to 1080p.

The Steam Link apps for Android devices or Samsung smart TVs support 4k, and In Home Streaming from PC to PC supports 4k, so if you have a Samsung TV, Android media player, or a Windows or Linux based HTPC you can use that.

What's the point of steamlink if PC games look much worse than console versions?

How does nVidia shield work? Would i be able to stream in 4k resolutions with maxed out gfx? I've got GTX 2080ti

The four year old discontinued piece of hardware you bought isn't up to current high end standards? Interesting.

If you've got a GTX 2080 Ti then yes, you can use an Nvidia Shield for 4k streaming.

I've hooked up a 15 feet HDMI cable from my PC straight to my TV.
It is now displaying directly desktop and all apps and games right on TV.
Is that a better option than streaming?
The picture is fantastic, im just not sure what kind Hz my TV can support (LG OLED65g6p) Games do tend to be more responsive on a proper monitor (38" acer 75hz")

But i tried the free Windows Store arcade car racing game ASPHALT 9, and loved it on the big screen with xbox controller.

If you're close enough to use an HDMI cable then yes, it's 100% a better option than streaming, and I don't know why you'd ever bother trying to use something like the Steam Link or Nvidia Shield in that situation.

if you can use hdmi then do that
the link is for in-home-streaming across lan/internet devices far from the host pc

Hz isn't the only thing that factors into the responsiveness. There is also the latency. A TV can do 60 Hz, and refresh the display 60 times a second, with updated frames, but TVs also have a higher latency. So when you push a button, it takes a little bit more time to see the response on a TV. Where Computer monitors are built with lower latency panels, so you can see the reaction faster. It isn't just a difference of 15Hz, though that does help.

I am not concerned about latency. My TV has a game mode that optimizes it, and i haven't noticed any problems.

But i'd love a higher refresh rate. I can tell the difference vs a PC monitor.
Also, i just learned that my TV can only do 30hz at 4k (60hz at 1080p)
But the new 2019 models can do 120hz over 4k.
