Steamlink and OnHub 5ghz connectivity issue
Hi, I am experiencing major issues with my steam link configuration at home. I will try to provide as much details as I can below:

My set up is as follows:

Upstairs:

Cable>NETGEAR N600 C3700-100NAS (this is a modem+router combo, which I am running in bridge mode as modem only)>TP-Link OnHub wifi router (DHCP)>TP-link TL-SG105 unmanaged switch>Hardwired PC.

My steamlink is downstairs, and is connecting wirelessly to my OnHub. Here is where the problem comes, the OnHubs (and all other Google Wifi devices) broadcast only one SSID, which is both 2.4ghz and 5ghz and automatically chooses the "best band" depending on a lot of factors. Thankfully, steamlink gives me the option to choose which band we want to use, so this is not really an issues, since I can choose 5ghz network only and be consistently connecting to the 5ghz band.

When the steam link is functioning properly, I have absolutely no issues playing any game on it via the 5ghz wifi, it is super smooth on beautiful settings on 1080p60fps.

Unfortunately, about 80% of the time, the steam link will simply not function properly if It is connected to my onhub via 5ghz band. This is what happens:

The steam link is always shown as connected to my 5ghz network, both in steam link setting and in Google Wifi app (which is kind of like a web interface replacement for onhub). When I go into PC selection screen on steamlink, it always properly shows that there is my pc, which is online and available for streaming, but when I select this PC to start streaming, most of the time (about 80% I would say) it will go into black screen, with a cursor in the top left corner, and then revert pack to PC selection screen with a little window saying connecting to network for 1 second, and then will show me my connected PC again. While all this is happening on steamlink, my PC receives the command from steamlink and is starting the stream in big picture mode, and keeps the big picture mode even thought it is never displayed on the steamlink screen (it just goes pc selection screen>black screen (while PC is already running big screen steam client)>pc selection screen).

If I switch the band to 2.4 ghz only then everything works just perfectly fine as far as connection to the pc goes. Once I select the pc, it plays the big picture sound on steam link and displays the steam client momentarily, however, as you can imagine, the gaming experience on 2.4ghz is nothing to compare to 5ghz with constant freezing, buffering etc. Sometimes after I start the PC on 2.4ghz, and then go to stop streaming, switch the band back to 5ghz only, it will properly connect to the pc on 5ghz and I will have a great gaming experience. But sometimes (most of the time) it still will never connect even after switching back and forth to 2.4 and 5ghz. If I leave the setting on Auto 2.4 and 5 ghz, it is similar experience - if the steamlink connects to 5ghz, it will never show anything on screen other then black screen, but if it auto connects to 2.4, then it will start properly but it will be literally unplayable due to lags.

I have 20 devices connected to my onhub wirelessly, and about 15 of them are on 5ghz network and all working flawlessly, so I know for a fact that 5ghz network is functioning properly for all my other devices, with steam link being the only device that experiences these issues.

I have tried forgetting/reconnecting to network, power cycling PC/OnHub/Steamlink, Factory Reset OnHub/Steamlink, reducing stream quality to fast and 720p, connecting with another laptop sitting right next to steamlink (with laptop running on 5ghz wifi), running public and beta builds of steamlink, and made sure that all the devices are updated to the most recent firmware, and the results always remain the same.

The only two things that are connected to my steamlink are the two steamlink wireless dongles.

I would really appreciate if you could help me figure out this issues, as I just hate to keep coming back home for a "lottery" on whether or not I will be able to play today without doing any ritual dancing...

5ghz has shorter range than 2.4ghz
performance on ac/n 2.4 vs 5ghz is very close on the link
no reason to use 5ghz unless it is getting interference on 2.4ghz

I do have the same problem! Everything works as long as the Steamlink is in the 2,4 GHz network. If I connect it to the 5GHz network, it just goes to a black screen, but communicates the streaming command successfully to my PC...it changes the sound and everything to "Steam streaming", launches big picture mode...but the data does not reach the TV...I am hoping for a solution as well, since I hope for better performance in the 5 GHz net!
Maybe it is the router?

there is no performance diff between 2.4ghz and 5ghz on the link
data throughput is more than fast enough on n/ac or even its 100mb lan port

Well ok, still I am curious whyit cannot get it to work in the 5 GHz WiFi. ;)

is the 5ghz wifi the modem/router combo?
behind the dedicated modem?

ex.
modem/router 5ghz wifi -> router 2.4ghz wifi -> switch -> pc

In my case it is "router/modem (2.4+5 GHz) <--> PC" + "router/modem (2.4+5 GHz) <--> SteamLink"...they are all connected directly to the same device.

make sure wifi isolation is disabled on both wifi networks

hm...I am back to the start. Although I did not change a thing, it does not work anymore, not even in the 2 GHz network. I am really clueless here.
