Router for wirless PC gaming.
Hi.
I've bought Steam Link a few days ago and my old router cannot handle wirles gaming at all.
Anybody have confirmed informations about routers (models), that will work wirlessly with Steam Link?
Connection would look like this: PC -(wifi)- Router -(wifi)- SteamLink.

Would AC750 standard work acceptable with good wifi coverage, or is it better to pay some more and get AC1200?

Just make sure it supports 5Ghz wifi. That's all that matters as far as I know. I got the netgear nighthawk for about $175 on sale. Great investment!

I often read that only one of the 2 devices should be wireless (for better performances). So, let's say you want to connect the Link over a 5Ghz Wi-Fi, you should have your PC wired.

Your Router is AC1900 standard - it's really fast, but my budget is about 125$, so unfortunately i cannot afford something from that price range.

Keep an eye out for sales! Every once in a while you get a deal too good to pass up.
Make sure your PC has an 802.11ac wireless adapter and the router you get also supports 802.11ac then run a 5Ghz wifi network so the Steamlink can join that and you should be okay. It will probably have a considerable latency (button input lag) while playing if both devices are on wireless though.

I've bought TP-Link Archer C59 (AC1350 standard) and it works great with my wireless PC card (AC 800).
Wifi range is about 4/5 bars on both router and PC, and games work just like on PC - for about 95% of gameplay, there is no lag - it works on same framerate like on PC.
Unfortunately I've noticed a little sound lag in a few games when playing in best quality mode, but mostly there are games, whitch requires 100% of my PC power, so maybe that is the reason.

So to sum up, anybody, who want to play wifi only - go for AC 1200 and abowe - it works like a charm with Steam Link. Personaly I think tkat AC 800 standard and good wifi range would be enough.

Hey there,

I am using an ASUS RT-AC87U and for me it is working flawlessly with following setup:

PC -(wired)-> router -(wireless)-> Steam Link (10 meters away from router)

I can watch movies with 5.1 surround sound, hear music, play games in 1080p (even emulators with connected gamepad) and most of the other stuff you can do with your pc.
