The latest steamlink firmware beta build i used was version578 and everything seems to work fine up untill you try to map the buttons, I get no response from down and right directions on either analogue stick. the D-Pad works fine both when the analogue's are turned off and when they are on.
all the other buttons and inputs work as you might expect them to.
You might be better off picking up a second hand ps3 controller to save all of the trouble, as you could get one for around he same price as virtualhere.
I'm only interested in playing games on the controllers they were made for, i.e. emulators with their traditional controllers..
its just a point of curiosity and interest for me to see that valve are doing great work making it easy for us to play with any controller... I'm planning on getting a gamecube adapter to test next and hoping valve add support for more controller types, N64 and WiiMotes would be great next.
i think the problem is probably an easy fix i'm just missing something... or valve has let slip some bug or two,
oh yea... and ♥♥♥♥ virtual here... it should be free for steam link users. valve should pay our license since the machine cost so much :p
Theoretically most controllers should be usable after the config files have been added. There might be some issues though with the wii controller as I am not sure about the wireless protocols it uses.
Have to agree that VH should have either been free or even still able to use the trial (one device) version. I eventually bit the bullet due to hotas support and the ability to use edtracker (head tracking) for elite dangerous.
On a somewhat related note, have you tried hyperspin as an emulator front end? Can be stunning once it is all set up.
Hyperspin is an amazing piece of kit, but be warned it can take a fair bit of setting up. Once it is done though it looks and runs like a dream.
Here is a quick demo of a setup.

You know what would be great? Zipstick controller support :p - lol - good old single button joysticks
