Steam Link
Steam link cannot find host PC
hi, recently brought a steam link. Cannot find host PC, followed trouble shooting steps to no avail. Tried the link next to pc on another monitor, when i restart pc the link finds pc to add computer but then pc goes offline. Then i click on host pc on steam link, its says ' can't connect to Pc. Please make sure it is turned on and steam is running'.

Tried to add again says host pc not found. Maybe someone has had these issues before thanks my router is virgin media.

Steam-link >> Virgin media > wired billion link > Giga switch > host pc. Plus cannot find the steam link on the network.

Also when I untick and tick the enable streaming, says pc online and ready, but does not connect and goes off line.

thanks

What is the IP address of the Link and the IP of the PC? Normally they should both have the first 3 numbers the same (for example 192.168.1.x).

What is the "giga switch" - manufacture and model number? If this is actually a router (has a DHCP server and assigns IP addresses), it will not work.

If you connect both the PC and the Link to the virgin media router (no giga switch), does it work?

Do you use WiFi or only LAN/ethernet cables?
I don't know what a "wired billion link" is.

The giga swithch is probably this......

I have one on my TV end and PC end.

Looks like your link kis not on the same network, can't you go straihght from the link to the network switch, take out the virgin router.
hi, steam link ip address is 192.168.0.12

and pc ip total different ending in 82.16.224.238

tp-link giga switch
Billion home plug

Steam link - Vm router, Billion home plug - tp link giga switch - Pc

also switched the steam link via the giga switch same ip, same thing.

The link is downstairs connet to tv and pc up stairs, now i brought the link up stairs added to other monitor and giga switch to find the problem.

Also tried without firewall nothing.

The ip address do not match, not know why.

What model number is the "Billion Home Plug"? Is it 2 wired adapters, or is it a wireless adapter? There are 6 products on this page, which one is it?
http://www.billion.uk.com/product/powerline.htm

What model number is the TP Link switch? Is it a "managed switch" or "smart switch"?

For some reason in your network, there is more than one DHCP server assigning the IP addresses to your PC and Link. Your Link gets the IP address from one device, the PC gets the IP address from a different device. This is the problem.

Either your TP Link switch or the Billion device is assigning the IP address. You have to connect them so both the PC and the Link get IP address from the same device.
hi,

Model TP switch - TL - SG100SD
Billion adapter - Homeplug AV 200 x 2 wired and plug to wall and upstairs

and i looked at this link https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5121-RPXB-7955

did all that but cannot find last part sever.cfg.

thanks
I think the TP-Link switch is OK, it should not cause the problem.

I cannot find the user guide for the Billion homeplug device so I cannot help with that any more. I suggest you try to remove it and see if that helps.

The other option is the Virgin Media router. What is the model number?

Some different setups you can try:

1) SteamLink - TPLink switch - PC
In this case the TPLink would also be connected to the VM router.

2) SteamLink - VM Router - PC
In this example the TPLink is not used.

3) SteamLink - Billion - Billion - PC
In this case you will not have internet, but it could help you understand the problem.

I think the instructions you read are not correct for your situation. I do not think you have a "dedicated server".

On your PC do you have a fixed/static IP?

The PC IP address "82.16.224.238" looks strange. How did you find this? In Windows, you can open cmd.exe, type "ipconfig" and look for the IPv4 address. What is the IPv4 address of your PC?

Do you also have a modem in addition to the router? Make sure the router WAN port is NOT connected to the TPLink or the Billion devices. The router WAN port must be connected to the modem only.

https://superuser.com/questions/790720/strange-ip-addresses-given-from-router-isp-limits-number-of-addresses

Did you enable "modem mode" on your VM router? You should not do this. Make sure "modem mode" is disabled.

hi, my local network went down on this pc saying unidentified ip address. googled said turn off whole pc and it fixed removed power adapter and turn off for 10 secs.

ip 192.168.0.3 on the ipconfig

tried 1-2 in your options

Virgin media super hub 2 modem mode is not enable and has 4 eternet ports

i got that ip address 82.16.xxx.xxx from asking net what my ip is.

thanks

Is it working now?

Your PC IP is 192.168.0.3 and Link is 192.168.0.12. So they are on the same subnet, this is good.

From your PC command line, try "ping 192.168.0.12" it should respond 4 times quickly.

If this is true, you must enable in home streaming in Steam options, and check that the firewall is off (temporarily). There could also be a firewall on your router.

If possible, update your router firmware.
hi, ping the steam link and had 0% loss, windowns fw is not on, have Kaspersy fw. still says 'Can't connect to pc, Please make sure it is turned on and steam running'

thanks
I had a similar problem... turned out to be due to firewall (ZoneAlarm) blocking incoming connections. Solved it by giving full access to steam executables in firewall program control.
