Wake On/Off LAN Problem
Hi, I have a Steam Link and everything is working fine and I have it set up to shut down the host PC and wake it up but I am running into a few problems.

If I shut down the PC using the start button as normal, then when I turn Steam Link on, I can't wake the PC. It just hangs there and eventually says it was unable to connect to the PC and to make sure my PC is turned on and Steam is running. However if I shut the PC down from within the Steam Link, then I am able to wake the PC when I start the Link up again but it doesn't actually start Steam and says that it can't connect to my computer (even though it has just turned it on).

So I can both wake and shut down the PC from within Steam Link but I can't get it to start Steam once the computer is turned on and I also can't get it to turn on the PC if I have shut down from the PC itself.

I have my Steam Link in the living room where my PC is located so I can game on my TV but I have just ordered another Steam Link to use in my bedroom so I can game in there also but be able to turn the PC on and off without having to go back into the living room.

Please can anyone help?

Are you on win10?

Yes I am. I have enabled wake on LAN in my BIOS and on the Intel ethernet adapter in device manager.

Does it work if you try to wake it up, let's say from an Android Smartphone? (there are a few apps which can do that)

Win10 corrupts wol settings. I have solved mine by using the driver from realtek not the default windows one.

My mobo is an Asus H81 Gamer and my ethernet card is an Intel model.

Try disabling Fast Startup in Windows.

OK I am not sure this works but you can try. https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/H81GAMER/HelpDesk_Download/

Select your OS and there are two lan drivers. Go with the three hundred mb one because it is the most recent one.

Thanks, I have already been to the Asus site and downloaded and installed all the latest drivers and this hasn't helped. I will see if disabling fast startup works.

you are welcome. I hope it will solve.

Ok, disabling fast startup has enabled me to turn on the PC from Steam Link even when I have shut down from the PC but the Link still isn't starting Steam. It is turning the PC on which is great but then not connecting to and starting Steam.

Is this because Steam is taking too long to start up? I have set Steam to start when Windows does.
