Steam Link

Steam Link

Steamlink is a VIRUS. [Solved for now]
Well Technically i belive virus is BIG PICTURE software that runs steamlink. but whatever.
So i bought Steamlink conected to my new PC. Was working flawlesly for 2 days.
Steam got updated one day.....and then nightmare started.
(NO changes to pc were made and no new games or software were instaled.)

First i lost a sound on couple of games, fixed it.
Then i lost the sound on all games, fixed it.
Then i lost sound in Big picture, fixed it.
Then i lost sound in games that use BNK and VMV files, fixed it.
Then i lost sound in all pc, reinstaled audio driver ...fixed it.
Then steam stoped running Missing MSVCP140.dll , reinstaled MSvisc++ all of them... fixed it.
Then i lost sound in all games that were once RUN through steam big picture (steamlink) even non steam games. Even with steam blocked and offline games had no sound. HOWEVER other steam games that HAVENT seen big picture were runing perfectly with sound.

Conected antivirus and antimalware external package Scaned 0 probelms found.

Reinstaled windows Clean formated.

Been using PC for weeks without problems.........connected steamling .......exact same nighmare again.

So Either Steam link OR Big Picture steam software is infecting PC like a ♥♥♥♥in virus and damaging other software beyond repair.

Now i just keep that damed STEAM VIRUS BOX away from my network and my pcs. I'm still trying to figure out WTF on my old laptop.

[SOLUTION]

Problems were caused by RAZER process still runing in pc evben know SYNAPSE drivers were uninstalled and sound drivers were completely reinstaled.....bump.

p.s.
If you have problems with sound you can try asking because i solved so many beyond this one.

sounds like windows didnt catch that the link streaming stopped and set sound back to defaults
check windows sound settings and set it back to your speakers instead of steam streaming speakers

I have only one playback device.

when not streaming it should go back to whatever is connected by default
right click and show all devices to see whats hidden or unavailable

Other games have sound except those who had been run through Big Picture.
Its like Big Picture changes game files somehow And those games can nolonger run sound. Reinstaling games solves the problem.
Same on my laptop and pc.

Also 1 more intresting thing.
If i run steam game (one with no sound) and while game is running i change sound frequency on my playback device - sound returns. But when i run that game second time sound is gone again and i need again to change to ANY kind of difrent frequency.
This is the constant that works TODAY.I belive tomorrow it will not work.

I will not deny that the steam environment have "some" issues, but it sounds to me, most of the problems you have are related to your platform (windows).
You can trust me on that the steam link is perfectly fine, and is not able to wreck havoc on your pc.
The steam client can change some audio settings to hook into the audio stream, and it can hook itself into the graphics system as a compositor, as there is no other way to get screen content.
So I assume the drivers for your audio board are not cleanly working with windows and steam.
But as it is windows I am not really surprised.

I am aware that stand alone steam software should function properly and combination of softwares create such havoc. Yet Stand ALONE functionality is what you expect from chinese products not top of the line and price steam products. Compatability with most popular software is a part of the product quality.

p.s. for a now i solved my problem myself.....for now...

In a background there was an invisible sound realated process running from MALWARE production company called RAZER even know synapse driver were unistalled and sound drivers were reinstalled completely process remained and affected steam sound.
Why it was running for 2 days without problems and only caused problems after steam update is beyone me.......Still many sound realated problems were happening because of other reasons beyond razer.
