Windows 10 Game Mode:
Anyone try this yet? I was worried that it might slow the encoding down but it seems to be unphased and still provides a boost in most games.

Game Mode which is suppose to set other tasks to lower priority and maximize CPU and GPU for the game. (Xbox currently does this).

Just load up a game the press Windows Key and G and then click the Gear and enable Game mode for that game. I tried it in a few games and it seemed to improve the games that had some fps fluctuations a bit.

Keep in mind the Game bar does not appear in all full screen games. Many times you will have to enter Windowed mode (alt + enter or in the game settings or a launch command depending on the Title), enable it then go back to fullscreen or Borderless.

There is a whitelist that Gamemode supports. For most you'll need to manually enable it in a game explained above.

Try it on and off on some Titles....

Some recording software and games may not like the gamebar enabled. So keep that in mind. I believe once you enable it the game bar can be disabled anyways. (checking up on this.)

This also might make recording software slow down. So you may have to disable Game Mode before recording a game. (Test and see is all I can say)

I would love to hear people's experience with this as well. I haven't tried it yet because I was sure it would be detrimental to streaming performance (and also because it's a pain having to set your game to windowed mode, using the game bar, and enabling game mode for each individual game). But if you say it has a positive effect and doesn't interfere with in-home streaming then I might give it a go.

What games have you tried with it? What kind of boost did you notice?

game mode means spying builded inside software and rest of software you do not need it but they run it "for you" on pause? Ah,ok...what is next "job mode"? "facebook mode"? this need to be default beahaviour IF user not ordered or adjusted otherwise! :kingsam:

I noticed less FPS dips and no stuttering in GTAV.

Im hope the new streaming feature in the creator build will open up some sort of loop hole to stream uwp to the link :)

This is off topic....

Er just search for how to add windows store games in Steam.... That might help.... Otherwise I am not sure. No need to thread crap here.

Well its not really off topic or crapping all over your thread ha, both are features in the creator build and both have to do with the steam link. I think more people will benefit from streaming uwp game then getting a 2% boost in games if they are lucky or a 5% boost for uwp games, but if uwp games dont work on the link then.........

Start a thread asking about UWP and Steam Link silly. Or search for pre-existing threads.

It's more than 2% depending on what you are doing and the game itself.... Also what hardware you have.

Which is why I said to try it and test....

But your talking about a feature that benifits uwp games the most

No it actually works for all games.

Before GTAV on the Steam Link would drop frames and stutter. Now while it still drops a bit in the 50's sometimes but the stutter is gone.

I explained this in the OP.

I don't want to steer off topic on the Steam Link. I tried it in a game that I previously had issues in and it appeared to fix it.

It's quite simple to enable per game and try it on the Link for games that may suffer from massive dips and such.

I noticed this helps in some Titles you may downscale (from 2k-4k to 1080P) or use Reshade filters and such as well....

It can also help in some games that are poor console ports or early access to a degree....

So all I can say is play with it and test yourself. Everyone's hardware is different. It's built in the Creator's Update so give it a whirl.

So just experiment and see. So far my experience has been positive.

Ran afew benches with gm on and off. Im getting less frames with it on than off, but when i disabled ht and 2 cores i seen a slight increase with it on. So it looks like it helps out if your on an 2 core cpu, but 4+ and its no help whatsoever actually lowering fps by 1-5 frames

Yes, Game Mode was designed primarily to assist resource strapped PCs, not dedicated gaming machines.

Hmm.... I have a 4 core CPU too.... However it was only two games that had issue on the Link.... GTAV and Dying Light. Which I recently tested Dying Light and the stutter is gone in that too....

Yeah it's not for every game or every system.... If you suffer from some games having difficulty streaming to the link due to system resources.... Worth trying.... Yeah it's also important to pay attention to fps being worse depending on the game....

So anyone who has some Titles that do have issues on the Link... Give this a try and report your results. ;)

Tried it out with Witcher 3. Host is 6600K, GTX 970, 16 GB RAM. Usually is 50-60 fps on the Steam Link, but dropping down to 30-40 fps in "heavy" areas (a combination of rain, wind and moving vegetation usually causes this). Other than that it runs pretty smooth, with just occasional stutters. Game Mode mostly seemed to introduce a lot more stuttering, so I quite quickly turned it off.
