If you are running initial firmware, update it through wifi.
If you are running beta, I noticed since version 600 a few network link problems, but they seemed gone in 606. I cannot exactly pinpoint it, because it's connected through 2 GS108Tv1's and those are buggy as hell, before it reaches a super stable GS724Tv4 on which the dhcp server is connected.
The Link and PC need to be on the same subnet.
It seems to me you can swap the location of the router and the unmanaged switch. This way the router will assign IP addresses to all downstream devices including those attached to the switch. The way you have it set up, the modem *might* assign IP to devices connected to the unmanaged switch (your TV and the upstream side of the router), and the router will assign different IPs to its downstream devices.
What brand/model modem is it? It could have a limitation to only assign 2 IP addresses perhaps (your TV and router already got them). Just a guess.
and reboot everything...
MessyJesse80 thank you.
it was great advice to swap the router and the switch. i plugged the steamlink directly into the router and it works, and now the switch goes off to feed network to other devices.
not sure why i cant go through the unamanaged switch with steamlink but, at least it works now.
for anyone else that has the issue:
With your previous config only the PC was downstream of the router and the Link was getting it's IP from... well, nowhere. Because the Link was connected to the switch which was upstream of the router.
You should have the WAN (upstream) port of the router connected to the modem by the way. It sounds like this is what you have done.
Glad this worked for you!
Unmanaged switches pass on dhcp requests to the router, and send replies back to devices requesting an IP because they're... well, dumb, unmanaged, and do not have a config (at least that the user can adjust).
I feel like there is something here that is a firmware thing on the steam link. i had other PCs, TVs, game consoles, etc. that were connected to the switch and getting DHCP.
Anywho.
Thanks.
