Steam Link Big Picture Mode + Gsync = Low FPS issues
Hello there,

I recently bought a 144 hz, Gsync monitor, upgrading from a normal 60 hz one.
I've noticed that my (perfectly working) Steam Link setup has started having an issue.

When I'm launching the Big Picture Mode from the Steam Link (by selecting my host computer), the BPM runs at 21/22 fps, maximum, where before it would run at a solid 60. The games itself, once launched by navigating through the laggy menu, seem fine.

I can solve the issue temporarily by checking/unchecking the "adapt host display to client" setting in the Steam Link streaming configuration. It's the forced refresh rate change that does it, it doesn't actually matter what this setting ends up as.

I've tried adding steam.exe to the list of processes that shouldn't use GSYNC, but the result is that none of the games I launch through Steam (when I'm at my host computer) can use it, which is quite a bummer.

Anyone else experiencing this?

GTX 1060, WIn10, 16 Gb ram, i7 6700, Acer Predator XB1 Gaming Monitor
Latest Nvidia Drivers (already tried DDU'ing, and reinstalling these as well)

Why would you use Gsync with the Steam link? 90% of tv's can not run over 60hz, and no TV supports Gsync. Disable Gsync when you using your Steam Link for optimal results.

Tannah: the point is, I don't want to manually enable/disable it every time I have to use my Steam Link.

It shouldn't matter whether or not Gsync is active on the host PC, Steam streaming captures at 60 fps anyway, whether you're syncing (through vsync OR gsync) to the host PC screen or not. There's no such thing as "Gsync over Steam Link", since the stream is just a 60 fps video encode.

My problem is that leaving Gsync enabled makes BPM over steam link run slow - it's a bug with finding the correct refresh rate.

I just turn my XB270HU off when using steam link.

That doesn't make a difference, unfortunately. Or do you mean physically disconnecting the display?

I'm sorry, I cannot understand/parse what you're saying there...

I've been having this same issue and can't seem to fix it. Have the same monitor as you. 144hz gsync. Disabling g-sync doesn't fix BPM running at a low framerate for me. I think manually setting my monitors refresh rate to 60hz does the trick but it is annoying. Have you found any more solutions in the meantime. It's really annoying that this hasn't been fixed and has been an issue really turning me off from using my steam link for months now.

Barney: Somewhere in upgrading to the latest Nvidia drivers this was fixed for me. I think.
