Steam Link + Dolphin: No controller passthrough
Hi, been tearing my hair out over this as it seems easy to setup based on a couple of videos I've watched but it just won't work for me.

I've tried a wired xbox 360 controller and a wireless ps4 controller to no avail. I can run any other steam based game using these controllers but as soon as I launch dolphin (with all the full screen, render options etc that people recommend) I get nothing. It doesn't even let me use the gamepad in keyboard/mouse mode like most other people experience.

I've tried setting the controller up through steam link, I've even tried going onto my pc upstairs while dolphin was running, ending the emulation and looking at the controller settings. It doesn't detect that there are any pads available/connected.

So what I think is happening is there is no pass-through from the steam link to the pc, this appears to work on everyone else's computer (based on videos) but not mine.
Nothing I do can get the pad to show up in the dolphin menu. Ideally I'd like to be able to use 4 pads for mario party but even one working would be a decent start.

Running windows 10, latest version of steam and the steam link is up to date.
Hopefully someone has experienced the same, hopefully it's a simple fix before I give up and go back to dragging my pc downstairs for super monkey ball mini golf lol.

Sorry for the wall of text, thanks for reading!

Sorry, I didn't see this earlier.
Make sure Dolphin is running full screen, make sure it's not running in admin mode.

Have you added the games separately into your Steam Library?

If you have, then you need to go to each game shortcut (for example, mario kart double dash)
and edit the controller settings so that both controllers have 'Gamepad' (PS4) as their profile.

Also disable 'Allow desktop configuration in launcher'

Should work if these options are all set. I'd also make sure that Dolphin is set to the same resolution as your pc monitor and not to the TV you're streaming to. I had some problems with the link when I tried forcing a higher resoltion than my monitor.

I'm having the same issue as Chris. My PS3 and PS4 controllers work fine in Steam Link, and each work independently in Dolphin, but they can't work together to host a multiplayer game. Has anyone had any success with this?

Please read the whole thread and do all the steps provided. Or at least tell us what you've tried so far.

Did you try updating the Link to the latest Beta?

No problem didn't mean to come across snappy.

So can you use the controller on your PC with Dolphin not through steam?

Connect your controller to the PC. Launch Dolphin from your desktop/folder on the PC. Make sure Steam is closed and not running in the background. Go to config and try to setup the controller as normal. Make sure you map it as Xinput and NOT direct input, steam remaps anything thats connected with Xinput so it can support more than 2 controllers at a time.

If you can't set the controller up here, then something other than steam is at fault.

If you successfully set up the controller then make sure you save the changes and exit Dolphin
(Please check you haven't set the Dolphin exe to run as administrator (right click - properties - compatibility) seriously this is what caused all the problems for me don't overlook it!!!).

Once you've got the controller working with Dolphin seperately, launch steam and go to add a non-steam game to the library.

Find the exact same Dolphin.exe that you just used to set the controller up and add it. Do not launch it yet, right click the Dolphin link in your library and look at the shortcut.

Say you want to play Super Monkey Ball, you need to directly link to the super monkey ball ISO/ROM in the shortcut and rename this Dolphin to the name of the game.
Any games you want to play on Dolphin through the steam link have to be manually added and have their shortcut changed to boot the game straight away.
I've attached a picture link below to show how I have written the shortcut.

https://ibb.co/ffv7EF

After you've added one game you can go to the steam link and config the controller.

Before launching the game, on the steam link load up the settings menu (after big picture loads). Go to controller settings and make sure your Xbox controller is in the list and you have selected 'xbox configuration support'. If you have this selected your gamepad should show at the bottom of the screen. If you don't have it selected you need to tick the box and restart the steam link (power options, top right on the main menu). I wouldn't recommend having a mouse connected to the steam link or a keyboard at this point, I found the mouse was getting registered as an xinput device and if it takes slot 0 then the controller defaults to slot 1. If you set Dolphin up with controller 1 as xinput0 then your mouse is pad 1.

Now you can go to the big picture library and you should have the shortcut to your dolphin game (hopefully renamed so you can see it, make sure it's linked properly to the ROM/ISO file you want to load).
Go to manage shortcut and select controller options. Untick the option for Use steam controller config (might be worded differently) then go to controller configuration and force the controller to an xinput gamepad (there might be an Xbox 1 option in the list, I don't use that controller so can't remember). This should be under the templates option on the left.

After all this is setup, launch your game and you should be good to go. If not then you haven't met one of the above steps. I've had no problems for a few months now playing with 4 PS4 controllers wirelessly.

I've never successfully set anything up for Dolphin THROUGH the steam link, I had to set it all up without steam, all pads assigned as Xinput and configured before launching through steam.

You can't launch Dolphin to the default GUI either, that seems to break the connection to the Steam API's for the controllers (I think, the controllers never worked for me when I did this). I had to hotlink to the roms and add each game as a separate entry to the steam library.

Hopefully this helps, a lot of it is a repeat from the thread.

No problem, I had plenty of help to get it running so the least I can do is return the favour.

I don't think the picture I linked is 100% clear, you should have the normal shortcut ending in dolphin.exe" then follow it with:

/e "[driveletter]:/[folderwithroms]/[romname].gcb"

the " quotations are important at the beginning and end after the /e.

I'll try check back in a day or two to see if you managed it.
Good luck!

Ok so still cannot get it to work at all? Tried everything from here, really don't get it? controllers use to work fine. Since whatever update, they no longer do.

Everything in Dolphin works fine and when I run dolphin through steam it works fine. It is as soon as I use the steam link no controller input through dolphin?

I have factory reset the steam link to see if that has helped but nothing? I really don't understand why this is not working. Sorry it is becoming quite infuriating considering it use to work fine.

I really appreciate any help.

PS all my games are loaded into steam via ICE

Check dolphin settings, here's a screenshot with my dolphin graphics config and the setting I was talking about in 'manage shortcut - controller options.

I finally got it to work :-)

It turns out using ICE now doesn't work. You have to individually put the games in like you showed me and everything then worked fine. Ball ache but works now.

Thank you for all of your help :-)
