Must have cared enough to look up my profile.
I really don't give a flying ♥♥♥♥ what you think.
There are absolutely no sexual acts or sexual content in the game at all but people are having fits that it's somehow pornographic (or worse) in nature. Today we live in a society where acts of violence, both real and fictional, being broadcasted on TV at all times are par for the course while even the hint of sexuality or something like a flashed side-boob is treated as the downfall of modern civilization and in case of celebreties worth of hours upon hours of "news" reporting.
Not to mention how often the much used phrase "Won't anyone think of the children?!" pops up when people attempt to censor every bit of content they deem offensive, slowly but surely pushing society to the weird state where even hints of sexuality are judged as inappropriate and offensive by media and viewers alike and at the same time every little bit of it that can be found is displayed in the same media and watched by the same people with utmost and unparralelled voyeuristic pleasure.
It would be interesting to hear what the OP, as a self titled journalist, actually has to say what about the game made him "throw up a little" and why it's supposedly the death mark of steam.
*Intense clapping* Bravo
If you don't think that happens then you are naive.
I'm also curious how many of you spouting this nonsense have children of your own, and if you did, wouldn't have a problem with a 6 or 7 year old child seeing this garbage?
If you don't have a problem with a child of that age being introduced to this "art", then stay as far away from the "west" as you can.
As far as this being "art" rather than a game, what is it doing on Steam then? Steam is for games.
I'm sure Deviant Art or some other place with no (or barely any) limits to this stuff would be happy to host it.
And as for the thing about we "westerners" are okay about violence but not sex, I don't why you think that. I don't let my son play violent games, I review what he wants to play, I read ESRB ratings, and I control what he does or doesn't watch. Any parent that gives a damn would do the same and do. Just because a few bad apples, like the Honey Booboo's of the world show up on TV doesn't represent the mindset or behavior of most American families.
Also stop being stupid, Steam is 13+ only. And who the hell would 'send' this game when it's free? It's a meme game, there's nothing more to it.
As expected of a "journalist" writing for Polygon, you're just full of ♥♥♥♥ lol.
In addition to that, your assumption that the content of the game is somehow a pedofile's fantasy about how kids think couldn't be further off. Not only is this game based of what the female programmer of the game actually did as a child. In addition to that, if you think that kids don't actually do things like this on their own, then you are the naive one here.
Another point to mention here is that you look at this from an adult point of view. If we go by that we would have to ban hundreds of childrens books, stories, fables and shows because despite being content made for children they actually contain extremely adult themes. Why don't we do that? Because children don't see those themes until they are much older. Just because you, as an adult, spot a theme not suitable for small children (in a game that's not even meant for small children in the first place) doesn't mean that even if a child would see it they would understand it the same way you do.
This, once again, is a non-argument. All things that are not meant for children could be seen by children without supervision. By that logic we would have to ban every bit of content unsuitable for children above kindergarden age.
Even worse, in this case you dismantle your own argument quite nicely. Further down you post a long paragraph about how you would control everything your child does and doesn't see (Yeah, dream on). So why should that not apply to this as well? If a 6 or 7 year old sees content not made for them, does that mean the content should not exist or rather that the parents should keep a closer eye on what their child does on the PC?
You're trying to have your cake and eat it, too. So either you can argue that because a child could potentially see something unsuitable for their age we have to ban it (as you do in this pararagraph) or you can argue that it's the job of the parents to keep an eye on their children at the PC and a few bad apples doesn't mean all parents don't care or that we should throw everything out (as you do in the paragraph further down). You can only argue for one of the two at the same time, not both.
Also, it just has to be said, if you are truely trying to argue that "how do you Do it" should not be allowed on steam because a young minor could potentially see it, you are doing so by standing on very very shaky ground since a quick look at your history of played games shows straight away that among your 10 most played games are such kid friendly titles as Grand Theft Auto IV, GTA San Andreas, GTA Liberty City Stories, Sleeping Dogs, Assassins Creed 3 and Far Cry 2.
Neither do you get to decide what is a "real" game and what is not, nor is there an actual clause that forbids steam from taking non-traditional games in. if that was the case steam also couldn't host the movies it offers or the games like Dear Esther which also happen to be more art than actual game.
You should have read my post more closely since I wasn't talking about parenting in general but rather the common theme with media in general. It does apply to parenting in a broader sense but my post was about something else.
For the last time, I do not work for Polygon.
Why so much hate directed at me anyway? I don't like this game. My right to have such an opinion, just as it's yours to like it.
I didn't personally attack any of you.
Tips fedora gent!
I have just one question for you then...what in the holy heck could you, as an adult,
even get out this then?
Please tell me you aren't one of those people who would buy a piece of blank canvas someone called art, and priced it at $50,000?
You are aren't you?
Nevermind, don't answer that, I don't have time to read the college discourse on why I should appreciate crap as gold. ;) Just kidding, I have written longer responses.
Here's the rub, from my point of view, I am never going to agree with you on this.
I can't. I'm a father of children (boys and girls if it matters) and there isn't something primarily "wrong" feeling about this game. I can not put this into the proper words. The best I can say is if you have any kids yourself, then you would understand why this might make any parent do a double take and say "WTF is this crap doing on Steam?"
If the people represented in this piece of work were over the age of consent I wouldn't be having a problem with it. I don't care what country/culture/planet you are from, I am never going to agree small children should be introduced to sex. Call me a prude, call me old-fashioned.There are just too many emotions, mistakes and ideas for a small child to process
when it comes to the subject. That is why there are laws. To protect THEM, not us.
But that is my moral compass and it doesn't deviate from North.
I'm not calling you out, nor any normal minded adult in here for playing it although I do not understand what this game could do for you, other than fulfill some deep-seated fantasy that you had for toy dolls when you were a child. Even if that is the case, that is fine, I just don't think Steam should be the place for it. If Steam wasn't such an well known place for PC games and was a niche market that few knew about I could maybe take it better.
One of my children, and no I'm not naming names on a public forum, has recently gotten a steam account that is parental controlled. It basically means if it has an age-gate or high ESRB rating then she can't see it.
Anyway, she got home today after being at a friends house.
Do you know what she was asking about?
This piece of crap!
Apparently one her school friends has full access to Steam and was able to download and play the game, then was at a neighborhood get-together and was asking her Mom about playing with "naked Barbie's". This friend of hers wasn't calling it art, she wasn't calling it a game, she was calling it "sex dolls". That's a seven year olds definition of the game from her perspective. Of course, I am the idiot who had introduced her father to Steam about a year ago, so now they of course are looking at me a little differently. Even though I had nothing what-so-ever to do with this piece of work, just by association, I am being looked at as "that guy who wanted me to sign-up for this thing".
Nevermind that I told him when he signed up that if he got any games for his kids to be careful. Nevermind that I only review game products and I didn't make, promote, review or sell this game, they will now be a little more hesitant about inviting me over for drinks etc.
To top all that off, I then had my wife on the war path wanting to know what sick and twisted stuff I was exposing my own children to. Do you think she gave a flying toot about the "art" of it? I would pay a $1000 to any fool who would try to argue the merits of this game to her face. :) She isn't a gamer, she barely knows the difference between a Nintendo 64 and a Sega Saturn. All she knows is her kid comes back from her friends house spewing stuff about playing with naked dolls on a PC game and that was all she needed to her. I didn't stand a chance my friend.
Do you think people like that are going to care, much less sit here and write a multiple paragraph response as to why they don't want this on here? No. They are going to get mad and blame the messenger, just like some of you are trying to do to me.
Or am I not entitled to my opinion, which judging by some of the other hundreds of outraged posts on this forum, I am not alone in how I feel.

Please disregard and grammar/spelling errors. Was written at 1:00 am, half-asleep and was just writing from the heart.
Anyway, I'm done trying to get anyone to understand our side.
I've said my piece and you either see or understand where I am coming from or you don't.
The game is here to stay and none of your cry about the game being 'disgusting' will change this fact.
Malice, your name fits, I'll give you that.
If you are going to TLDR, then you dont have any right to run your trap.
Keep digging that hole, making yourself look really intelligent.
