Requirements for steel beams in buildings is too damn high (and other things)
I usually place one of each production facility, and that's enough, I always produce slightly more than it's being used. But steel? It's used everywhere in huge amounts, by the time I reached space age I've had over 130 units required for construction only, and that does not include Hyperloop or bridges. Each residential requires 15, and I don't really have control over their construction (except that I can pause or cancel, but that's kinda not fixing the problem).
Adding more mills will increase pollution and I already have enough problems with it, with lakes randomly going green. And I wouldn't mind if nuggets were more clever when it comes to distributing resources. Because currently I think much more go into the facilities, rather than construction areas. Say I need 10 of plastic to build something, oh nevermind, instead of delivering it there, it goes to a factory as their storage is almost always full. If I can't control it, better balance it out.

Also, I wouldn't mind having some late game high tech facility to convert old, now barely used resources (bricks, planks) into something more useful. (As even concrete is barely used then) Planks into oil, perhaps? No point in having a couple thousand each when I can't even trade it because my neighbors have ran out of everything else.

Also, the government isn't exactly the smartest, they keep placing SO MANY defense towers snd water pumps it's ridiculous. Medium sized lake? Expect 5 pumps. And then they cry because lakes are empty. And towers on a planet where wolf attacks will barely scratch the population and are so rare it's not worth it. And then there's energy department. These idiots recently built FIVE nuclear plants, each one generating 1000 power and of course eating huge amounts of fuel. When the civilization was fine with one, max two plants.

Yet another problem is gas, because it's used by most of modern and space buildings, and it depletes the underground deposits so fast. How can I keep two civilizations going with barely any gas to use, and with exiles having none to trade? I know there's black market but oh dear their prices are.. creative, to say the least.
Are the nuggets always doomed to fall like us humans here?

The moment you reach modern age, requeriments for steel beams are all over the place, I place like 5-6 Steel Mills, and never only one factory, 2-3 for sure.

I also think steel is unbalanced, but this game is about numbers, just numbers, place more buildings, keep a big population.

And Courier huts are key, spread out and keep 10% of your population as couriers, that will fix lot of issues managing resources and constructions.

I can't understand problems with pollution, you have unlimited number of parks, and that's all, Ministries are broken, that is for sure.

About Gas, just build more Gas mines, upgrade in space age, and don't waste, Power Plants for example or Nuclear Plants(fuel = gas+oil) require too much, choose a different energy source. If you feel you need more, choose a bigger planet starting the game, or destroy exile cities and take over that land.

You brought up another gripe which is energy sources. Why are we limited to 2 per save? Why are they locked? I get the idea of choosing "evolution path" of sorts, and while each choice comes with different struggles (availability (of fuel/nuggest) or reliability (production based on current conditions)), by the time the civilization is advanced enough to be able to terraform a barren moon, it should not be dependent on a single, limited technology. Why can't I switch to fully renewable technology if I want late in the game? Wind+solar would be my go-to.

well, game designers decisions are not always the best,
there is a trick, a quest: spiders infestation, usually in modern age, if you have researched every tech pre quest, the game will unlock two techs randomly from the early bifurcations, that means additional energy source and the other "Science of .." tech

I always choose clean path, saving gas and oil too, kinetic/wind + solar, also better on the moon, because you don't need workers for wind turbines and solar panels, for example,
though kinetic generators are fun and I always have too many nuggets
