Where are my steel beams???
I have a steel factory. It's running at 100% capacity. Yet my civilisation just cannot get steel beams. They seem to come at a glacial pace. I even put a warehouse and a courier next to it and it made no difference. What am I missing here???

you can directly watch steel beams get made by clicking the building

you can see your total usage and production of them by hovering over them in the resource bar

if they're being made, maybe you have 'required for construction' at a high number and they are instantly being used

I have "81 steel beams required for construction" but I only make "1.7 per min". That's a massive discrepancy that I haven't encountered before with literally any other resource in the game so far.

Is there any way we can manually build roads? The AI logic for roads seems quite bad.

nope, the roads appear when you place something next to them though so you can force the ones that exist to appear if you want

manufacturing amounts are pretty low, i made 4 of each factory personally and it still wasn't the best

One factory won't cut it.

Order steel from the alien shop and pay with nuggets. You're god why do you care

Or trade with exiles.

i always buy up the steel and circuits from exiles at the start of the modern age for a pretty significant boost

I just reached the space age, but still, I have many buildings from the modern age without being upgraded. My issue as OP is steel, and most buildings require around 5–10 of steel, in the best case 3, and take ages to be built, (not to mention the ones that require +10).

I keep unlocking techs, but I feel like I can’t do anything because I don’t have enough steel to build or upgrade new buildings :/

I don’t know if it’s random in each game and I am unlucky, but of the 3 exiles I have, none of them commerce with steel.

Also, I feel the black market is useless, not only expensive, rarely sells something useful. Vendors mostly sell stone-age resources: stone, water, wood, food, and apart from that very few of other resources, I very rarely see steel, my most urgent need. I tried to upgrade my relationship with a vendor buying, but I don’t see improvement, and it’s a waste since it decays back super-fast :/

i barely make due with 3 or 4 factories at the height of late game planet expansion. 1 factory will take you a very long time to get anywhere.

the black market trader requires finesse, but yes the default trading options suck, use the order feature

easiest ways imo:
sacrifice nuggets, you never run out of CP and can refresh to rush your oders
just sacrifice population, ideally have matenators because they reproduce way too much
