I completely understand your frustration and sincerely appreciate your patience. We would love the release immediately, but we also would like to deliver a great project at the end of the day. Project with more exciting content, less bugs and more quality of life things for everyone. Currently, we are at the polishing stage and adding small things, tweaks and balance. Once this is done, we will have a testing phase to ensure that the game is stable and does not have a lot of bugs. After that we should be ready for a full release.

From the years you've been working on it, I would hope that it releases without any bugs! It's not like you haven't had any time or have to crunch to get it done, this should be the most bug free game ever
We also kept developing the game, which means new systems were constantly added to the game. The game never stayed on one place without any new systems. Each new system that is being added to the game potentially can cause issues or do not work correctly with other systems.
In any case, we will do our best to resolve everything what we can find.
However, our small break was for a good reason. We’re officially moving into BETA! This means all the tools and features we need for full release are technically in the game, but we’re keeping a few things locked for now as we refine them and add content (there’s still A LOT of new stuff to play with anyway). The good news is, we’re planning to release The Universim in its entirety this year! The big 1.0 launch will see all of the hard work spent on systems, simulations, AI, sound, art, and more over the years finally smooshed together in a wonderful package.
I don't remember how much I paid 3-4 years ago, nor do I remember if you specifically said it would cost more on release or not, but given the fact that the game goes on sale, I suspect I saw that beta post, said "ok, i can support this and wait for a year to play it"
Here i am, in 2023, still with s not-complete-project, and unsure if i'll even give a damn when it is finished.,
And yes, I know, and knew, that EA was not a guarantee of a finished project. I have since learnt that lesson, and done my best to avoid falling into the trap.
Am I the only devotee of this game? I come back to it on the regular, as I love restarting after every patch to see how I can improve, and see what they have added. To me, this feels like a fully fledged game. I didn't even realise (except for the planets) that it was still in beta. I haven't got to space yet!
Keep going Crytivo, as well as creating new games you keep on expanding and improving on this game too!
EA means Early Access. If you can stand waiting a decade for a game to come out that you've paid for, then all the more power to you, the rest of us that gave them money expect a completed product in a reasonable amount of time. They just haven't done that, they are taking way too long to make a game, its a city builder not a complex RTS. They say the same thing every year, and have for years! just finish the game! And now they put conflict in the game that not alot of people wanted and it doesn't even work right so theres that
Well, I can tell you I certainly DON'T love restarting after every patch. The only Genre of game I generally go back to multiple times is Grand Strategy. For a builder game, I'll go back occasionally when I get the itch, but it is far from guaranteed. I want to play a finished game, and support a dev to get to that point.
1) release big patches each 1-2 month and reset save files
2) release way smaller patches but try as much as possible to predict every single issue that might happen due to compatibility of save files and try to fix them / manage and allow to play old save files.
We thought that #1 was the right choice, because this way everyone will be able to enjoy bigger content updates and content that was added to the beginning of the game would not be missed. Some people were fine with it, some people were frustrated and not without a reason. If we could, we would surely merge #1 option and #2, but this requires way bigger team, where one half of the team would continue developing content for new update and another part of the team would just keep fixing issues.
At this point it is hard to say if choice #2 would be better. There would be one last reset of the save file upon 1.0 release. Once 1.0 released, we won't rush with all the updates and we will do our best to keep everyone's save files.
It depends with which game you are comparing The Universim. The biggest challenge that we do have is our spherical world. That complicates the entire development drastically. 99% of the games are done on a plane. In other worlds, just a flat surface. Pathfinding issues and overall all calculations are much easier done on a plain and if we would actually develop the game without a spherical worlds, the development would go way faster and easier. For a very long time we had to fight with a lot of things due to that and we had to rewrite certain systems multiple times in order to optimize or use a different approach before we could move forward. Those challenges are not apparent immediately and we could not predict them ahead of time.
In any case, we did our best to provide updates since the release on a monthly basis and only in certain occasions we moved to 2-3 month of development per update. We also did implement a lot of things that were not planned, but per community request they were added, which derailed us from going in a straight line from A to B. Could we have developed the game faster ? I think yes. Would we have the same amount of content and details in the game? Probably no.
Our entire team is currently moving as fast as possible towards 1.0 and I hope it would be worth the wait that we had to ask everyone for. I appreciate sincere feedback and I do apologize for all the delays. Our intention was and still is, to deliver the best possible experience and work with our community to improve all aspects of our game.
I hope no one thinks that your not working on it, its just the length of time that its been in early access that's the problem. I get that development takes time but it's just gone on too long, i've bought games that came out after this in early access and have finished by now. I'm glad your finishing it but my excitement is just gone, maybe i'm the only one but I just get tired of hearing "it's almost ready! 1.0 is almost here!"
I do understand your concern and sorry to hear that the excitement is gone. I hope once we get the 1.0 version of the game out of the door, you would give the game one more try. At this point there is nothing we can do about the development time that already past ( I wish we could travel back in time with all the knowledge from now and we would definitely avoid a lot of mistakes :D ). Right now, we can just try to do our best and deliver a great experience with 1.0 and do it as quickly as we can. This is what we are currently concentrated on and this is what our entire team is doing.
What EA is: Early access to a variably playable version of a game still in development, with opportunity to assist and influence direction of the game's development. There is an understood risk a game still in development might take years to finish, or not be completed at all.
What many treat EA as: Pre-order with a playable demo.

Honestly it hasn't been that long. Traditional game design would have had like 3-5 years without user interaction and then typically just before launch, they'd do a beta to involve players for bug awareness and feedback. This method, you get access often at year 1 and you have the opportunity to give feedback along the way to shape the game. There's no official date typically as a result and I honestly prefer this route. Had they just called a prior version 1.0 it would have appeased some, but the game would not have been ready. Many devs have done that and gotten flack for it. I am glad they are taking their time to put out a solid product and truly do not care if it comes in 2023 or later for that complete product.
