this is probably the worst news to hear as its going to be such a shame cause when the devs finally finish making the game. the community has no way to extend the games life because no mod support this is what kills me its the same thing that happened with cheat codes long ago devs are moving further and further away from modding support. and when they do add it its pretty basic but what can yah really do you know.

Just to add some hope to the scenario, there's something that our beloved Dave said about 2 months ago:

"Modding: We'd like to add some basic modding capabilities, but if we do, this will be after 1.0"

But I see that the discussion is evolved further, so I'm not really sure that this kind of answer of mine should do any good.

Are you talking about what was planned for release in 2016? Lol....

This game is in a sad state. Once they release 1.0 it will be abandoned, and we'll never get what was promised in 2015.
2014 kickstarter trailer..... the game is in a good state idk what you mean i can see some flaws here and there like nuggets arent really to smart. you make it seem as if this game is failing atm which it isnt at all.

The Universim is not going to have a proper mod support, because that requires resources, time and money, and Crytivo doesn't even have those to deliver a polished game.

I don't know every detail, every promise back in the days, I have played only since 2019, but I can't tell you beyond the characters, colorful assets, animations, sounds, and funny lines we don't have a game here, every mechanic was trivialized: fear/love, crime, happiness, polution, exiles attitude, education system, water system, choices in research tree...

as a result everything is solved increasing population, and building more, most of the time, same kind of building, so I don't think mod support would fix anything

your missing the point of mod support its not to Fix anything. sure modders could make patches of there own for games. but its for new content when the game eventually comes to a stopping point. which will happen one day and since theres no mod support theres going to be no new content. honestly it saddens me to see mods are becoming like cheat codes just forgotten. about early 2000s was a major time for ingame cheats now fast foward to really recent times they have be voided from most modern games same things happening with mods nowadays atleast you if you have been around games long enough can start to see this slow process now.

Ok, without official mod support, you have to dig and learn a lot of stuff, using VS, programming code, and it takes a lot of time, so you need people with knowledge and willing to invest lot of time, take into account the community did not even create a Wiki for the Universim, after all these years.

How do I know about modding? Because I am helping with several mods for Phoenix Point, and it takes months if you are ambitious, and that without implementing new assets.

I don't think this game, the original code, was created with mod support in mind, so don't hold your breath in expecting steam workshop or something like that.

Realism, the team is super small, devs are not investing in new people

i mean neither are alot of other games like for example. the just cause games but people still made mods for them even two full on multiplayer mods despite the games not even being remotely MP compat. and well if they dont want to do mod support thats fine by me but then theres no one to pass the torch onto after there done with this game. i can only enjoy a game for so long [still enjoying it] but when the devs get officially done with it theres going to be nothing new. also just cause you have a small team doesnt mean you cant have mod support a perfect example of this is Ravenfield which was made by one person not even a team.

I do agree, but this is business, Crytivo is a publisher in the first place, and they are developing two games with currently maybe, for the Universim, 2-3 programmers, 1 internal QA, 1 game designer without lot of experience, and 1 great artist creating assets, plus management taking care of a few things, trust me, the goal is implement the remaining scheduled stuff:
different alien planets with new wild animals, plants, Planet Cracker, Observatory, interplanetary commerce, new quests, maybe story line, localizations, I guess everything in the works for a while,
and then done with it, whatever the condition when it is released

If they going to abandon the game at 1.0, they might as well just release the source code. That's the only chance modding will become true.

Yeah that won't happen, but you never know. Plus, we have no idea if it will be abandoned at 1.0. There's a lot of factors at play.

I do not think you will see any major content past 1.0, but that is just my GUESS.

Even if it is abandoned after 1.0 and bug fixes for 1.0, so what? Many games stop development after 1.0. No DLC has ever been promised. What Alex K has said is that they will keep doing content past 1.0 IF 1.0 sells well. He has personally said that to the public on the Universim discord.

I don't think it will sell well unless they get all the bugs and performance issues fixed as well as other balance and mechanic issues. If they get those fixed, I think the game would be a smash hit.
