GPU Heat
This game has my 1080ti, at 100% fan, running at 83/84C, Anyone having heat problems? If so, were there any settings that pulled it down? I have played with in-game settings, but no luck,

I don't know what to say, with 2000 nuggets ,my Nvida RTX 2070 Super never reachs 60C , 84C is worrying.

anyway, how many nuggets do you have?

vsync. or whatever nvidia is calling theirs today.
Your computer is trying to make more frames than can be displayed, it seems nice to see all those big FPS numbers, but they're almost pointless since your monitor can't display them all.

While NVIDIA doesn't publish this information directly, the GTX 1080 Ti's preset thermal throttle point is 84C, which is a degree or two higher than on NVIDIA's previous cards. As a result, the card reaches equilibrium at a slightly higher temperature than NVIDIA's other cards.

Additionally, it's max thermal point is 91C. You should, however, check for updated drivers, if there aren't any, consider moving to a previous driver version until a patch is available to fix whatever is causing this issue for you.

Most in-game settings for games using this engine don't do anything for performance, and the ones that do are usually not exposed for the user to change, shadows for example.

V-sync off was recommended by Devs, that is not the cause of the problem

I ended up changing the refresh rate of my monitor down to 60hz from 144. That brought the temp down to a nice low 70s!

much better, great, my monitor is only FHD 60Hz

Max temp for your card is 91C so your fine.. Mind you you don't want to see it go up to 91C, but stable at around 85C is normal and safe. I personally can't stand 60hz anymore, I need 80hz for that buttery smooth game play.

I know max operating temp, that does not mean I want to run that hot at 100% fan. 85 is not normal for me, it has never been that hot. The closest I have gotten was with Elder Scrolls Online and it would hover around 80/81.

It takes less energy to produce 60fps than it does to use uncapped frames, more energy used means more heat, turn VSYNC ON if you have a heat problem.

You might also check into blowing the dust out of your computer for better airflow on the heat sinks if you haven't in a while.

This is an easy thing to answer:

1) the 1080ti is made to operate at a constant 80c-85c. it doesn't need to throttle until 91C. If the card hits 105C, it will shut off - although if it hits 105C, you've already reduced the life of the GPU. that said, even at 100% load, that card should not be exceeding 70-75C if properly cooled.

2) Anytime hardware overheats, that's not a software issue (unless you don't have proper fan/pump control).

That is cause by bad design, or poor airflow / water cooling or too much overclocking. A CPU or GPU should be able to be run at 100% without any over heating issues what so ever.

My recommendation is check your air (or liquid cooling system) to make sure there is no dust, etc clogging vents. Pull out the GPU, blow out any dust/lint. Blow/clean out dust lint in the PC

Make sure the PC is running in a room that is 80F or lower.

Disable any GPU overclocking until the overheat issue is resolved.

My old rig had a 1080Ti. After a couple of years, the card was running at 85-90C, once I cleaned all the dust, lint, etc from the machine, the card would run at 100% and only at 73C.

Also a 1080TI should idle around 28-35C. If it idles higher than that, you REALLY have a cooling issue.

The best thing you can do in game is turn on Vsync. will cap the FPS (this will put less strain on your card and less heat)

I have that problem too and have no idea why. Its something wrong. My GPU is so hot even i dont play !!! I stary the game and enter Esc because i had something to do. When i back it was really hot...... This is first game what do this.... and i play a lot so.... I should play in winter maybe :P

I set my refresh rate to 60 from 144 and now it runs around low to mid 70s.

If your system overheats, you need better cooling. A computer should run at 100% GPU and 100% CPU without over heating

Suggestions

1) Slow down the clock speeds (disable overlocking or underclock of need be)
2) clean out the PC. Remove dust, hair, etc
3) Install a better cooling system

This one helped my laptop on another game a huge amount. Dropped my temps about 40°f on either GPU or CPU (can't remember which one for certain). With my desktop my GPU only hits 147°f and CPU 159°f running with vsync on at steady 60 fps.

When's the last time you gave your PC a full blown clean out? Even a small amount of dust can cause temps to jump like that.
