How similar is this from Black & White franchise?

I used to love that game and couldn't find a "God" game similar to it that was good.
So, how similar is this game from it?

Feels very similar, development progress is extremely slow though. I'd sit it out and wait, the idea of escaping planets and colonising other systems sounds amazing but the game is no where near that stage yet.

Other than being a 'god game', it's not similar at all.
There is no Creature.
There are no gestures for powers.
There is no Good/Evil factor.
And so on... There are more differences than similarities!
Universim is a nice game with a lot of potential, but unfortunately it cannot be compared to B&W. If anything it owes a great deal of inspiration to B&W's predecessor, Populous, which is a much better comparison.

You may choose to play as a benign or malign god, but there is no representation of that in Universim as there was in B&W. If you recall (if you had played it) both your creature and your fortress morphed to reflect your good/evil alignment. There is no physical manifestation of your alignment evident in Universim.

I am talking about the gestures. In B&W, you invoked your power by drawing a unique sigil for every power.

I dont think you understand what he meant with "creature". In black and white you could choose between a cow, a tiger and a chimpanzee for a pet which you trained while building your empire

How about the physics though? Can you for example grab stuff and break structures and such?

It's in my opinion the best God Game out there, very unique. It's relatively old now, I don't even know if it's available in any store so you might have to torrent it. I'd suggest you to play Black and White 2 though, a lot of improvements in many areas.

B&W is one of the best games ever made imo. I dont think you can buy it anywhere online, so just google black and white and download it. And it is a real god simulation.

Sadly Lionhead Studios got bought from EA so there will never be a Black and White 3

Black and White is such a unique and good game you can't compare it to anything unfortunately. I wish there were similar games but it just doesn't exist. There were really talented Artists and Creators at Lionhead Studios back then.

even tho EA owns BandW ... its not available on origin (EA's idea of Steam.) [ but they do have older titles ... ]... kinda sad because I did look forward to trying the game ....and tried looking for legal copies to buy online. but for me no luck.

All of this B&W talk has made me quite nostalgic ;)
I'm sure I have the original disks gathering dust in the attic somewhere, but I wanted to see if I could find it online.
Depending on your budget, you could buy the game plus expansion packs from a variety of 3rd party retailers through Amazon for example. Be advised though, that prices vary a lot for a legal copy of this 15 year old game! Such was the popularity of this classic ;)
I searched for and found an alternative method to acquire B&W2 with both Battle of the Gods and Creature Isle expansions (including the v1.1 and 1.2 patches) I'll say no more... just that it is possible to find ;)
