Yeah... no I am not going to risk melting my CPU to play this game in it's current state
title says it all.

Like the game so far besides some of it's raw points of it suppose to be a god game but really is a city builder incognito. But the main point that rubs me the wrong way is how intensive the CPU usage is. Ran the game when it was first released on steam and then tested it earlier today when the update dropped. I had my CPU running between 75c and 125c temps.
The 75-125c was just from today starting a new game with next to no nuggets. I am not going to risk my gaming laptop having a melted/fried cpu in order to play test a game.

I guess I'll come back to this game once it's further along in development and won't risk causing my computer to melt. Wish the best of luck to the team and hope they succeed in their endeavor to bring this game to fruition.

In case anyone is wondering what rig I am running it's this

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073PY18CN

I got this a year or so ago so... yeah.

Besides the cpu being under the recommended by .2 ghz and lacking 8 cores, (has 4 sadly) this thing meets all the other requirements.

Gotta take into account that he pulled the heat sinks off so what looks to be less on one side could well be on the heat sink/cooling system itself and just too much of it. I'd bet that these are put together by machinery so they err on the side of over-adding thermal paste so avoid too little of it and not completely covering the item

When I do this, I just generally put a dot in the center and use an expired credit card to scrape it out to cover the entire chip then place the heat sink/fan on top and just move it around a tiny bit and then secure it.

I certainly do agree that the CPU cores is lacking. I do not know if I should look into getting an update for the CPU on the laptop... I'd probably be better off getting a new one though this thing is only a year old from when I bought it.

Im running a somewhat same setup (laptop as well). Although the game is imo a bit slow it runs pretty ok .. I thought :P.
Pretty sure the CPU is not overheating though

Nowadays, manufacturers don't use actual paste, but thermal compound pads. It's easier for automation (and humans) to apply since its not a goopy mess. I actually prefer to use the thermal compound pads.

I'll have to look them up and order some as I'm about to buy and put on a different fan system to my FX8350 which tends to run at about 170°F on some early access games.

Here is a link (if Steam allows it) that shows what is used more often. There are actual thermal conductive silicone pads that you can get as well

https://www.amazon.com/Innovation-Cooling-Graphite-Thermal-Pad/dp/B07CK9SHZG

also, please note, I am NOT endorsing this brand or any type of thermal choice. This is just an example of the different ways instead of using Thermal paste

Heh I got that as well as the liquid metal stuff though I didn't use it on the laptop, the liquid metal works pretty well.

I just tried using throttlestop and altered the voltage the CPU gets. CPU is running at a smooth 33c-63c area. Undervolting the CPU certain helps with temp issues.

You can actually trim the pads to size to fit your cpu. I myself got the 40x40. More material to work with. All you need to do is measure the size of your CPU and cut the size out of the larger pad and apply it.

Thinking of applying something different though. Might look into getting those graphite slabs or liquid metal after watching a youtube vid about this exact series of laptops and how to reduce heat on it.

Yes I am using the laptop atm. Just opened it a little while ago and then put it back together, gotta get the stuff I need first in order to maintenance this thing.

Get a little stand to place it on too, so you got air under it. Biggest failing with a laptop is people place them directly on their knees or on their beds and they heat up.

Laptops have toned down hardware compared to full desktop versions, you should have shut it down much before 125 degrees.... Laptops are not meant to be on your lap, ELEVATED OR FLAT surface. If that isn't the cause of overheating, then dust or some other issue. No matter how intensive, a game is not the cause for your computer ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ the bed lol.

I got a fan plate stand when I first got this right off.

well aware of this, laptop hardware doesn't exactly match up to tower PC's but currently it's all I have. My tower I haven't used in a while due to a constant blue screen issue, I think the HD the OS is installed on it is bad. Also the hardware on the laptop is actually more up to date compared to my tower, except for the graphics card which is the exact same. Nvidia 1060 6 gig.

regardless of all this folks my temp issues are mostly resolved.

@requiemFang if you want I can hide the thread since everything seems resolved. That way you don't have random people coming in to tell you you're an idiot :P Up to you, or feel free to lock it yourself. Glad you got it all sorted though, especially since the solution will mean you'll just get to play games better.

Go for it... I can't for the life of me figure out how to lock it myself lol
