Yeah... no I am not going to risk melting my CPU to play this game in it's current state
title says it all.

Like the game so far besides some of it's raw points of it suppose to be a god game but really is a city builder incognito. But the main point that rubs me the wrong way is how intensive the CPU usage is. Ran the game when it was first released on steam and then tested it earlier today when the update dropped. I had my CPU running between 75c and 125c temps.
The 75-125c was just from today starting a new game with next to no nuggets. I am not going to risk my gaming laptop having a melted/fried cpu in order to play test a game.

I guess I'll come back to this game once it's further along in development and won't risk causing my computer to melt. Wish the best of luck to the team and hope they succeed in their endeavor to bring this game to fruition.

In case anyone is wondering what rig I am running it's this

I got this a year or so ago so... yeah.

Besides the cpu being under the recommended by .2 ghz and lacking 8 cores, (has 4 sadly) this thing meets all the other requirements.

Your CPU should NEVER.. NEVER ever melt.. a game should be able to park it at 100% 24/7 and that cpu should just get "warm"

if you have temps from 75-125C umm that's your fault.. you're either not coolingit properly or you have tons of dust clogging the fans, etc OR you have it OCed to much

oh and this game really needs 8+ cores. 4 is not enough to run this game IMO
requiemfang Oct 3, 2018 @ 8:05pm
obviously, also I haven't touched the overclock feature of this laptop. I have read around that this thing may suffer from heating issues. I may have to take it apart to apply thermal paste at some point. But this game compared to all the others I have is the only one making the CPU strain that much temp wise.

I certainly do agree that the CPU cores is lacking. I do not know if I should look into getting an update for the CPU on the laptop... I'd probably be better off getting a new one though this thing is only a year old from when I bought it.

If you are running that hot, then you have something else going on that is causing a problem.

Laptops are notorious for getting hot when not properly ventilated. The games CPU/GPU useage is not enough that it should cause the issues that you are stating. I run this off of the following laptop and never go aboe 70c.

My recommendation is to do a thorough cleaning of your fans intake and channels. Also, try running with something that keeps the bottom of the laptop off the table for more airflow.

Another thing to try is running in a clean start environment where you don't have a bunch of applications running in the background. Some applications can cause the issues you are having.

AH yes, info I forgot to include. I do have 4 fan pad I use for the laptop to allow more airflow. I guess it's time to service it with a through cleaning, might as well do the thermal paste application while I am at it. The manufacturer I have found out sometimes does a really crappy job of putting things together, like applying too much thermal paste or not enough which causes overheating issues.

Won't be the first time I've had to open the laptop case though. First few months I had it, some keys on the keyboard weren't working due to the connector not being securely connected, manufacturers fault I suppose.

I tell you what helped on my Asus 17.3" gaming laptop (from a few years back), was to clean out the dust bunnies.

I have a home compressor so I shot the air into the back vent of the laptop and watched it blow out everywhere. Had I to do it over again (and I have), I'd stick a Q-Tip into the back vent to secure the GPU and CPU fans (don't know if that's even possible on yours), as I didn't the first time I think I overspun one of the fans to where after that, it would make a strange noise for about the first minute after startup.

However... It did reduce the CPU temperature quite a bit when using it for gaming.

I still use that laptop, and when I see dust bunny buildup on things like the LAN port of USB or SATA ports then I blow it out again and see all the dust fly everywhere.

Don't know about yours but mine weighs in around 9lbs and is more of what used to be called a desktop replacement rather than a laptop. Too heavy to take anywhere anymore.

Note to self: Do it outside next time!

If you are running that hot, then you have an issue with your cooling system.

I have an old 4 Core I7 4790K (desktop). I run it not overclocked right now, and this morning, i started a new game and reached max of 65°c during a storm, where i noticed the game engine to be more intense.

Yes, that game can hit the CPU hard, but once again, if it is running that hot then there an issue with your computer.

Oooh boy... just cracked the laptop open and the fans on the thing are caked in dust. Definitely going to have to clean that up and I might as well check the thermal paste situation. Thinking of applying something different though. Might look into getting those graphite slabs or liquid metal after watching a youtube vid about this exact series of laptops and how to reduce heat on it.

Yes I am using the laptop atm. Just opened it a little while ago and then put it back together, gotta get the stuff I need first in order to maintenance this thing.

I've got my desktop cpu under watercooling with liquid metal and i immediatly saw a huge drop in temps (compared to water cooling + default paste)
requiemfang Oct 5, 2018 @ 7:23am
yeah, the vid I watched showed the results between three different types of temp control for normal paste, graphite and liquid metal. Graphite seriously got some cooling but liquid metal was the best even though it's a pain to apply it. Just gotta figure out how the heck I'm gonna clean all this dust out of the fans.

Glad to hear you found the problem. Until you get the thermal paste, at least blow out those fans and get them pushing air properly. :)

I play perfectly on 8 cores 16 threads with 23° C of temperature. The problem is your hardware, wrong thermal paste, refrigeration, cleaning, malwares, etc.

Try these programs in the following order:

- Ccleaner: https://www.ccleaner.com/

- Adwcleaner: https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/

- Driver Booster: https://www.iobit.com/en/driver-booster.php

Besides the drive booster... already have the other two... sooo it isn't really that. It's my laptop fan, and probably the factory applied thermal paste which I plan to fix once the new stuff gets here I just ordered.

Sooo yeah... finally cracked the lappy open and applied liquid metal. This is what the manufacturer did when they put this thing together... holy crap did they put way too much thermal paste and no wonder I have heat issues with the CPU.

That's ok i guess ? I've seen much much worse than this.

It's not good. It's okay. But the issue is the spreading of the paste is extremely uneven, one side has hardly any, whilst the other has too much. You only need a thin layer to cover the entire heat plate of the cpu. There's different practices to achieve this, I personally wear a latex glove and spread it out from a dot in the middle. But you could just put a dot in the middle, or cross the cpu heater plate and be done with it. Just make sure it's a thin even application. Too much will slow the rate of heat transfer, too little will not connect the heat plate to the heat sink. OH! And make sure to buy some cleaning alcohol to remove the old thermal paste, the paste needs to sink into grooves in the heat plate, if it's full of old dry thermal paste, it's not going to conduct heat as well.
