Data execution prevention (in Control Panel/System/Advanced/Performance Settings/DEP)
(Windows XP) Right-click My Computer and follow Properties -> Advanced -> Performance Settings -> Data Execution Prevention. Once you have opened DEP, see if you have 'Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only'. If so, check 'Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select'. Next, add Continuum.exe to the list, and click "Apply". Then you can go back to 'Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only' if you'd like. Now, run Continuum normally. (Windows Vista) Go to Start -> Computer -> System Properties (button under the link bar) -> Advanced System Settings (on the left navigation menu) -> Performance (click settings). Move over to the one that says "Data Execution Program", and add Continuum to the list. Now, run Continuum normally.

Good to see you here, we really hope we can see you in game soon as well!
We found the DEP, although it was a bit harder, because our Windows is in different language, but the problem is, that we can't access those settings it is greyed out and we can´t click on it.
It says, that in order to access it we need to be administrators (we are) and run a bcdedit.exe.
We don´t understand it very well and we also don´t want to mess with our system, we hope you understand, so we just want to know if there is an easier solution.
Thank you again for you time. Have a nice weekend
Otherwise, try disabling user account control:
First, launch Control Panel and go to System and Security > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy. On the left side of the Local Security Policy window, find “Security Options” under “Local Policies.”
Scroll down until you see a list of items labeled “User Account Control.” Here, you can either disable UAC completely by double-clicking on each item and choosing “Disabled” or you can customize how it operates by, for example, disabling UAC prompts for software installations.
We tried every possible thing we could find and do and it still don´t work.
We don´t want to sound rude or mean, but shouldn´t the game run without these security problems etc...?
We don´t feel comfortable when doing this and it just doesn´t seem right disabling things, that they are in the system for a reason...
We apologize if it sounds rude, we are just careful. We don´t mean to offend or attack you.
Its just, that we don´t understand these things, so we are trying to not mess with it.
Anyway thank you for your help and we are sorry for wasting your time.
The following has helped some other users who were having similar issues running Windows 8.1.
Try to run the game as an Administrator and to try the compatiblity mode in Windows XP (Service Pack 2).
As I am not familiar with Windows 8.1 I am not sure what else could be done. Make sure you are an administrator (or running the game as an administrator), make sure Windows is up to date, and make sure you have permissions to read/write/modify the folder that Continuum client sits in.
Some times a program needs a certain (older) version of .NET Framework installed. I am not sure what (if any) version of .NET Framework Continuum needs, but I would suggest trying version 3.5 and version 4.0.
As M_M God mentioned, you may want to look into Data Execution Prevention as that has been known to cause problems preventing Continuum from running.
The only other things I can think of would be to check the hard disk drive for errors using chkdsk and have chkdsk repair any errors it finds. You may also want to try running the System File Checker (sfc /scannow) and make sure that there are no corrupt Windows compononents.
Other than that, I'm not sure what else could be tried without actually taking a look at the problem firsthand.
Peace!
Can you please just try to fix this issue, dear developer?
I used to play this game 20 years ago. ;..
