T3G Shutting Down

Well after 15+ years T3G is about to go offline in a few weeks. Paying for a host is really not a option since the zone's usage is not worth the expense. (free hosting is welcomed lol)

I have not been active in years and 15973+ has done a good job keeping the lights on, and Craig our host. I would like to thank them for their service to T3G.

I would also like to thank all the staff and players that made T3G a big part of our lives for so long and who have grown up and gone on with real life.

I've always been curious what it takes in terms of computing resources to host a server. I always figured it needed something special due to the age of the game. But some of the other aspects? I may be able to cover.

The map isn't the only thing you need to truly resurrect T3G. Everyone should have locally cached versions of the map, and if you had a computer you played the game on over the course of several years, hopefully you also have multiple maps stored there.

My understanding is that the hard piece of the puzzle to acquire are the original bots that automated scorekeeping and managing the various games. The code has supposedly been lost. Without it, playing powerball, capture the flag, king of the hill, and the rabbit chase game would require rebuilding it from scratch. I tried reaching out to folks through other means, and those were the few bits people passed along. I recommend digging through the old websites for T3G and other Subspace Continuum circles using the wayback machine to find some of these lost resources for building the second layer of game server control logic. The base server itself is out there in the latest form, but will only ever be the shell of its former self without the management bots.

Did he ever reply do you? This is Nighthawk -- pretty sure I just found an archive of 2010 era T3G server zone files.
