I didn't know this even still existed
Let alone was still being developed and all. I remebmer playing this... a long dang time ago. I have no idea if I'd be any good at it after all this time but I remember getting a lot of time in back in the day.

It's funny to me, actually, cause what made me think of it was tangential. I was thinking "what other sorts of games might we apply the Battle Royale structure to", since all the big ones are FPS games, but what do you think? What if there was a BR that played like this? You'd have to hunt down powerups to level up in a larger open map, all the stuff that makes a BR a BR ,except with momentum based ship combat. That could be interesting?

That does sound interesting for sure! I'd give it a try, but I doubt most would unfortunately. All the newer generations care about is shiny graphics.

Sorry to necro, but I had no idea this existed still. I was in the public beta in 95-97 like at least one of my friends. We used to play on the LAN after work.

Seems an awful lot like Cosmic Rift

I used to play this game every single day from 99 to 2005. I still have it installed. I've checked in a few times, but not many players left. I remember when EG had multiple arenas and hundreds of players.

This is a pre-cursor to Infantry/Cosmic Rift.

Infantry/Cosmic Rift still exist as well, even though SOE shut their servers down about a decade ago. A dedicated group of players run "Infantry Online" now. Not many on it (20-30 players at a time tops), but it still exists nonetheless! Occasionally they will put up Chaos Zone from Cosmic Rift as one of the zones they still run.

The lack of Rogue Trader is sorely disappointing. Bug Hunt is just full of bots and doesn't even have the skrall shaman class. Though I don't expect much from the player run Infantry Online. Just seems like it has run its course.

Closest to CR after it died was Red star zone.

What happened to Red star, anyway? It was my home zone when I first started playing maybe ten-ish years ago. Now it's completely gone

I always associate Christmas with Red star thanks to the seasonal events they used to have. It's the only reason I come back every Christmas.
