As a general tip: there is almost nothing you can do that the game won't tell you about in a very direct manner.

Once you've done all 4 movies' storylines, you'll know exacty what to do in every situation and with every puzzle/object, what (most) dinosaurs can do, and should have acces to characters that cover every possible action (no need to buy any extra, unless you really want to get a golden brick one or two missions earlier).
The only exceptions I can think of, and why I said "most" dinosaurs, are the t-rex (you're not told about its abilities during the main game, but while free-roaming in Jurassic World), and the Dilophosaur and Brachiosaur (he game never tells you explicitely, but you can see their head appear on blocks they can interact with). And if my intuition is right, the Indominus-rex (haven't unlocked him (her?) yet but there's a couple bricks I can't see how I could get to without a stealth dino).
