How the heck do I win the short game?

Every time I get to the 10 year mark, Einarth tells me that my deeds weren't great enough. He says that my herds, my warriors, my trade, my magic, and my esteem were all good, but he still says I've lost. In the course of the 10 years I had the ring, I completed all 9 heroquests, What's the deal?

on a side note, it seems near impossible to complete Humakt's heroquest if you don't have a worshipper of Humakt, no matter how high the the quester's stats are... I had Kallyr do it with her crazy high stats and two points of magic into questing and she still failed 90% of the time even with the right answers...

Off the top of my head: You’re never expected to do a heroquest every year. You only need to do your main deity’s, and one other. The “your neighbors respect you” is a bit amorphous, and isn’t identical to clans liking you.

So you think the problem is that my neighbors don't like me enough? is this limited to just the people in the tribe or does it apply to all the Orlanthi in Dragon Pass? Because there are several clans who really hate me because I've raided and counterraided them dozens of times. But I do have a reputation that rivals that of Heort, so it can't be that bad, right?

Well, I resolved all my feuds and gave lavish gifts but that still isn't enough to win the game. Is there some way to check the game files and see what I'm missing? The game isn't helping me here

No, that’s the opposite of what I said. I don’t remember the specifics but various deeds give you a reputation (which is not the same as your kingly reputation — KoDP tracks a lot of nuance that is hard to convey explicitly).

I could try to take a quick look at a save folder (ZIP it and email bugz +at+ a-sharp.com) to see if there’s anything weird going on.

Thanks for the email, it at least gave me the chance to look at things in a little more detail.

For anyone else reading this, remember that Einarth only asks you to perform two heroquests (they are after all risky and unpredictable).
